Jesus demonstrates how he fulfils the Old Testament by teaching the true purpose of the command, "Do not commit adultery." He says the command has a much greater depth than simply restraining negative actions, but that it should also restrain negative emotions/desires. And, in correspondence with the greater length Jesus explains for the command, "Do not murder," it is right to assume that there is a greater length to this command against adultery. This should promote a controlling of our desires and imaginations along with an effort to be content with our circumstances. This can lead to positive relationships with others. But in all of this, Jesus gives grace to those who turn to him.
