What is a Parable?

Parable - is a story that is intended to illustrate an attitude or principle.
Jesus spoke in Parables to answer questions
Matthew 13:10–17 ESV
Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: “ ‘ “You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.” For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
He says TO YOU it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. He speaks to them this way so they will listen to not just the story but to the real meaning.
Matthew 13:1–9 ESV
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.”
So let’s break it down.
Matthew 13:3–4 ESV
And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
Plant the Seed
How often do we say that? I Planted the seed, I did my job right. But what does Christ say later on.
Matthew 13:18–19 ESV
“Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.
When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it.
Hearing and Understanding are two different things!
I can go out to the strip and preach the Gospel each and every day right. But this says that anyone your hears the word and does not understand means nothing. If I talk above your heads and I stand up here and say The WORD OF GOD SAYS THIS NO GO AND DO IT. But if you don’t Understand it how will you be able to follow and do what God Ask of us.
(Doug and the chairs)
Let’s continue in this parable:
Matthew 13:5–6 ESV
Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.
They had nothing to keep giving them water so they died.
Matthew 13:20–21 ESV
As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
(Sunday Card)
Going to church on Sundays doesnt get you to Heaven. You can sit here, you can pull out that Sunday Card, you lift your hands in Worship and follow all the motions of being a Christian but if you are not rooted in the Word how will you be able to succeed in the World.
It doesn’t say in this Bible, Book of Hall 12:1 that Erich will be happy for the rest of his life and no one will persecute him for being a Christian, nothing bad will ever happen to him again until the day he joins Me in Paradise.

This is going to tell you everything that is going to happen in your life but it will help you overcome the tribulation and persecution that arises on account of the World.
Let’s continue:
Matthew 13:7 ESV
Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
Matthew 13:22 ESV
As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
Ok Sunday Card again.
How can you be Fruitful if you continue following the ways of the World?
Ask yourself this question. Take you and put I
How can I be Fruitful if I continue following the ways of the World?
Nothing in this world will go with you. Don’t let it choke your Spirit and let it get you down.
Too often we do this. We don’t give it to God and let him handle it. We want to handle it, and we handle it through money, drinking, gambling, or ways of the World.
If something bad happens to you, stop blaming God for it.
God has never left, He is just waiting for you to come around!
God HAS NEVER LEFT! I can not stress this enough.
Put your pride aside and ask God for help.
He isn’t going to throw your past in your face.
Still with me?
Matthew 13:8 ESV
Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Explanation:
Matthew 13:23 ESV
As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
When this church was only at 20 people, we sat here and said where is everyone.
Let me tell you Everyone was that God wanted to be here. We are now between 50-60 people on Sunday Morning, it’s not my doing for this. This is God. When this church had over 150 people on Sunday Morning, that wasn’t Pastor Ron’s doing that was God’s doing.
Why?
Because we heard the Word, we understand that nothing happens without God.
He is LORD OF ALL.
Instead of when something good happens, stop saying look what I did but say Look what God did in my life.
I talk about it all the time, I screw up.

Screw Ups Anonymous
Hi, my name is (insert name) and I’m a screw up. But God loves me for who I am and wouldn’t change a single thing. I believe that God exists, and that He is Lord of All and there is nothing that can tell me any different.
Final Thought:
Matthew 13:9 ESV
He who has ears, let him hear.”
Which one are you?
Fallen along the path, Rocky Ground with no Root, Thorns choking you, or producing grain?
