Often times, I don’t know what I’m doing. I know, I cover it up pretty well. That’s why I am so thankful to have people around me that can help we through difficult and crazy situations. Or a coach that can teach me how to improve and keep me grounded.
We all need a little help sometimes. Especially when it comes to being a Christ follower. In fact, it’s so easy to act like a Christian. It is far more difficult to react like a Christian. That is why it is such good news that Jesus promised a Helper to come and teach us how to be like Him.
John 14:26 NLT
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to teach us how to walk with God and to remember what God has taught us. Have you ever just randomly remembered a Scripture you learned in kids church at the right time? That is the Holy Spirit working inside of you. What about that time you really wanted to do something wrong but a voice or a nudge inside said that you shouldn’t? That’s the Holy Spirit too.
John 16:12–15 NLT
“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’
I am so thankful that God doesn’t call us to live these crazy Jesus-centered lives without help. He gave us His Holy Spirit so we can live for Him free of sin. The is a catch though. You have to listen to be able to hear Him. If you listen and hear Him, but then ignore Him, you won’t learn His voice.
John 14:15–17 NLT
“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
The more you pay attention, the clearer His voice will be.
Now imagine if we were all listening to Him. What would our lives, our world look like? We would see God doing amazing things through us, because that is what He called us to do.
