Where Do We Begin?
Where Do We Begin?
When Jesus triumphantly conquered evil and death and rose from the grave, He spent some time with his disciples before leaving to heaven and the unseen realm to rule from His throne. One of the things He did before leaving earth was show His disciples that all along while he was with them performing wonders, miracles, and casting out devils, they didn’t really understand him, because they didn’t know enough about who He truly was. They didn’t know Him as God! In Luke Chapter 24 there is a scene which describes Jesus going through the entire Old Testament to reveal Himself to the disciples as the God of the Old Testament who became a human so that he could personally defeat evil and death on behalf of humanity.
English Standard Version (Chapter 24)
And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
It goes on to say in verse 31 that “their eyes were opened”
If we want to know who the real Jesus is in our day, we too have to look at the Character of God, as it unfolds in the plots and themes of all Scripture.
This requires more than simply reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, though, that is in fact a requirement.
It requires that we have our spiritual eyes and ears opened by the Holy Spirit of God.
It is no surprise then, that one of the very first “acts” of the apostles upon receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, was to show how the person, character, and mission of Jesus unfolded in the Old Testament. See Acts 2:14-36 where Peter preaches his first sermon from the Psalms and Joel , and Acts 7:1-51 Where Stephen preaches a sermon from Genesis to
In this series of short presentations, by the grace of God, I too will go through the Old Testament so that we might see the Person, Character, and Mission of Jesus unfolds in history, from then till now. We live in a day of increasing confusion and no shortage of opinions being expressed about who Jesus is. Who Jesus really is, is not something that we can afford to get wrong! There will be nothing more tragic than getting to the end of all things only to realize that many will have followed a Jesus of their or someone else’s own making. Pray with me, that just as in the books of Luke and Acts, our eyes will be opened and the real Jesus is revealed to us in this series of short videos.
