The Believer’s Warfare
Message 9

The Sword of the Spirit

Ephesians 6:17 NLT
17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Me:

I love the bible.

The bible is on one hand so simple
Then on the other hand it is so deep.
It can be so profound
Putting on armor
We see can see that as something practical
Doesn’t that just make sense
For me the bible is alive
It’s not history
It’s not a good story
It is so relevant for the way we live
It so often speaks to the very thing I’m going through
We:

The sword of the Spirit

First and foremost a weapon of defense

We are soldiers
We have our armor (Belt, Breastplate, shoes, helmet, shield,)
The most effective we have will be the sword
The shield of faith blocks the fiery arrows
The sword can block the close combat attacks
You need both

Close combat attacks

Our weakness
These are the trouble areas we face

Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Slothfulness, Anger, Envy, or Pride

Satan will also use our trials against us
The sword of the Spirit we are able to defend against these attacks

We can also use it for offense

It is the power to save a soul
It has changed your life
We can testify to our family etc.
The power of this Word is incredible
Hebrews 4:12–13 NLT
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
God:

Jesus and Satan Face Off

40 Days in the wilderness
Luke 4
Preparing for ministry through fasting and prayer
Attack One

“Turn the stones into bread”

An appeal the ones pride
God has left you hungry
You can handle this yourself

“Man shall not live on bread alone.”

Attack Two

“I will give You all this domain and its glory,”

Satan’s goal was to get Jesus to doubt God’s plan for Him, and to bypass it.
Have you ever doubted God plan and went out and did on your own?

“Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”

Attack Three

“If you are the Son of God throw Yourself down from here.”

Notice Satan quotes scripture Ps 91:11
Prove yourself God - here’s a test
In our immature ness God will
God is not some genie in a bottle to grant our every wish.

“Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”

You:

Brandish your sword

Show ourselves approved
2 Timothy 2:15 NLT
15 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
Six ways to be know the bible

Hear it

Read it

Study it (Study notes)

Memorize it

Meditate on it

Apply it

Just Imagine:

Now you are the teacher

Notice the passage
1 Peter 2:2 The Message
2 Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NIV
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The word of God is so powerful it transforms men from the realm of falsehood to that of truth, from the realm of darkness to that of light, and from the realm of sin and death to that of righteousness and life. It changes sadness into joy, despair into hope, stagnation into growth, childishness into maturity, and failure into success.

Do you love the bible?

Learn and love it then teach others also.
