Intro

what is this all worth to you?
what does it mean for you?
are you after something here and now?
or are you looking toward the end
taki’s experiment

Angel and the Little Scroll

a cloud and pillars of fire- God’s guiding presence
rainbow- symbol of God’s covenant judgement and grace
one foot in the sea and one on land- bringing together all created things, stretching over them all
the mystery of God to be fulfilled- that salvation belongs to God and is extended to all of his creation
the little scroll to be eaten- the will of God that is to come- sweet because it is the will of God and bitter because of the judgment to come

Two Witnesses

measuring rod- the commands of God
measure the temple- not the physical in Jerusalem, but the presence of God that is in you
prediction of the destruction of Israel
Rome would destroy it all and cause many in that day to be driven from their homes
a prediction Jesus makes that John makes as well through this
part of the tribulation
the two prophets- the word of God and the Church- these two will be tested to the point of breaking and then be resurrected and called up in the end

Seventh Trumpet

the last big group of seven for a while
the last trumpet is sounded and all those who are marked with the mark of God are separate from those who are about to be marked otherwise
the battle on earth is won against the tribulation not by fighting some great battle but by keeping what is God’s to the very end
even when that is difficult
even when you are despised by the world and they cheer at your loss for it

Application

why are you a Christian?
is it because you want to be liked or praised for being a part of a group?
we are a family and we will welcome everyone
but that does not mean that there does not come with this a fair amount of hardship as well
what is seen in the trumpets and the woes is that being a Christian means being something that the world will seek to destroy to the bitter end
