Story of two men on the basketball court… feeling old. Man, I’m so old, I’m on a c-pap machine at night… my wife makes me sleep in a separate room. Think about that, I ain’t slept in the same room with my wife for 10 years. Heck, that aint nothin. I aint slept in the same room with my teeth for 15!
Read example of Barney Fife humility… Andy Griffith show
Humility Defined - words to think about in conjunction with humility… modestly, etc.
In short, it means to subordinate ourselves… to put ourselves under something.

Background of Text

We’re looking at two fairly well known texts this morning.
Jonah…
Widow of Zeporath...
Examples of Israel in the Wilderness…
Do you notice a trend here? A theme? When we humble ourselves, we obey… we please God… and God bestows His blessings upon us.

Main Points

Everything in the Kingdom of God begins with humility.
New Christians… where do I begin… what do I read? Begin with being thankful that God chose you… that He abducted you… that He has revealed himself to you… that He gave himself for you. Read about His life here on earth so you can become even more thankful. And then let the grateful presence penetrate you... overwhelm you… Think of the Father running across the field for you when He saw you coming. Think about how you must have smelled to Him? Sometimes we think we can’t do something because we just can’t handle it.... the way someone smells… etc. Did it ever occur to you, that that’s exactly how we come across to God? He is blameless, reproachable, pure white… and we are tarnished, blotted, spotted, dirtied, soiled. And yet here he comes… He see’s you, and he’s running across that field.
If you’re not engaging in growing the Kingdom, you’re not humble enough
If you’re not humble enough, you’re not grateful enough
