Matthew 1 is the first chapter of the Gospel of in the New Testament. It contains two noticeable sections. The first lists the genealogy of Jesus from Abraham to his legal father Joseph, the husband of Mary, his mother. The second part, beginning at verse 18, provides an account of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. Christ, the Greek word for messiah, literally translates as "the anointed one".

Matthew was one of Jesus' twelve original disciples. Matthew does not hide the fact that he belonged to the category of "tax collectors and sinners" when Jesus called him to "follow me." (Matthew 9:9–13). Matthew became an apostle who received from Jesus the commission to "go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19–20).
So Let’s talk about names.........This being the month of February( BLACK HISTORY MONTH, BLACK HISTORY IS EVERYDAY). We talk about and hear familiar names of people that’s associated with some of the great things that they’ve done; For an example when you hear the name Harriett Tubman, you associate her name with the underground railroad. When you hear the name Jesse Owens, you associate his name with the one who set a World Record for the high jump in the Olympic Games. When you hear the name Ella Baker, you associate her name with being a branch director for the NAACP and co-founded an organization that raised money to fight Jim Crow Laws. When you hear the name Garrett Morgan, you associate his name who invented the 3 Position traffic signal because he witnessed an accident on a Road Way. When you hear the name Gordon Parks, you associate his name with being the first Black director of a major film, Shaft. Now I could go on & on with these and more but time won’t allow me to.

There is someone here or online that needs to KNOW or to be REMINDED about ‘THE NAME OF JESUS.’ None of those names that I’ve just mentioned earlier or any of our names are more precious than the name of Jesus. Is there anybody here who Knows about the name of Jesus?? I mean REALLY KNOW. Someone also needs to know....Just because you call on him, does not mean that you KNOW HIM, or that He Knows you; for Matthew 15:8 Niv. says “’These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

I) The First Point I Would Like To Bring To Your Attention Is “THE SAVIOR”
I) The First Point I Would Like To Bring To Your Attention Is “THE SAVIOR”
Ordinances, doing what is right and keeping the 10 Commandments does not save a person - ONLY JESUS CAN.
B. B. Warfield:
We have but one Saviour; and that one Saviour is Jesus Christ our Lord. Nothing that we are and nothing that we can do enters in the slightest measure into the ground of our acceptance with God. Jesus did it all. And by doing it all He has become in the fullest and widest and deepest sense the word can bear—our Saviour.
.. If I were to have 5 minutes on media time, I’d use it to express my grief to the hurting and then take the rest of the time to point out that we’re living in a stained world that’s crying out to be redeemed and restored to its original perfection! I’d want people to understand that their Creator is also grieved by the effects of evil, and that’s the only way we can begin to make sense of a world where innocent children and their teachers are gunned down. Two things happened at school this week!! (1) one student who calls me dad said that her cousin killed his girlfriend by playing with a gun. He is 18 and the girl was 15. They were staying together and the 15 year old mom knew about them living together. (2) A young man told me that he been having dreams about killing his girlfriend because he has trust issues. This is why it is important to know what scriptures to share with people . If you don’t know scripture by hart, keep them on your phone or write them down until you learn them. Would you agree that we need a SAVIOUR?? (II. We Can’t Save Ourselves) We can’t do any type of work to save ourselves. Mankind has fallen! Listen to it! What else could it possibly take to prove it? Do we really need to argue the point? For centuries, people have been seeking to right themselves with their Creator. Man calls it religion. Religion is man’s effort to somehow please God, appease God, satisfy God, or find God. It’s all about what man does to get himself out of the mess he realizes he has created. Some religions are easy-going and kind-sounding; others are rigid and difficult. All of them have this goal – to somehow benefit ourselves by doing enough of the right things. That’s religion.
The problem with religion is that it’s man-centered rather than God-centered, and the idea that somehow man can conjure up from within himself enough virtue to fix himself. That’s surly not what we read in : The Gospel according to Matthew.
The Baby’s name means Savior because there is some saving work that needs to be done. It’s not about RELIGION IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIP. If we could, we wouldn’t be reading about a baby Whose name means Savior. Listen: A man dives into a pool, and later emerges on the surface. Not a very exciting story. But, what if a man watches as a desperate swimmer in a muddy sinkhole helplessly goes under for the last time? What if the swimmer’s only hope is for someone to rescue him, but there’s only one who’s near enough and strong enough to save him? What if that rescuer, without hesitation, dives headlong into the murky waters, and for what seems to be the end, doesn’t reappear again? Then, what if that same man, suddenly bursts from the depths, gasping for air, and holding in his strong arms around the one who had sunk below, now saved from certain death? That story would be a story worth repeating. THE NAME OF JESUS . signifies, Jehovah that saves. So Jesus is divine. Ordinances , Keeping the 10 commandments does not save a person, ONLY JESUS CAN!!
.DON’T SAY Charles Spurgeon says:
Sin Like a Tame Leopard
You have a tame leopard in your house, and you are often warned that it is a dangerous creature to play with. But its coat is so sleek and beautiful, and its jumping playfully and it’s so gentle that you let it play with your only child as though it were the well-domesticated cat. You cannot have it in your heart to put it away; you tolerate it; indeed, you indulge it still. Alas, one black and terrible day it tastes blood and tears to pieces of your child. Then you know its nature and need no further warning; it has condemned itself by displaying the fell ferocity of its nature.
So with sin. We thought it such a fair thing; we could not be persuaded that anything so pleasant, so fair spoken, could really be so deadly an enemy as God said it was. But when sin leaped upon our altogether lovely Jesus, and like a ravening wolf delighted itself in his slaughter, then it condemned itself most effectually.
This Is Why We Need a SAVIOR!!!!!!
HAVE YOU ACCEPTED HIM AS YOUR SAVIOR.??
Not only we have “THE SAVIOR, NOW WE HAVE THE
II.) THE SALVATION
Many persons, if they are asked what they understand by salvation, will reply, “Being saved from hell and taken to heaven.” This is one result of salvation; It is true that our Lord Jesus Christ does redeem all his people from the wrath to come; He saves them from fearful condemnation which their sins had brought upon them; but his triumph is far more complete than this. He saves his people “from their sins” NOT “in their sins” for 2Chronicles 7:14 KJV: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
God Wants Us Back
It’s not just a NT concept. Long before the birth of Jesus there was this understanding of God and the fact that He has always had a plan for our forgiveness before Adam dropped and Eve had sinned.
Psalm 103:9-11
9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. Is there anybody here who Thank God for his Grace!!!
Psalm 130:3-5 (NIV)
3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.
In the book of Hosea, God is telling the story of His desire to have His people back. He uses the prophet Hosea to tell the story. God commanded Hosea to marry Gomer, a woman who would eventually leave him. She would bear children – who were to be given names like Lo-Ammi “not my people” and Lo-Ruhamah “Not loved.” Gomer left Hosea and went into a life of prostitution. That could have been the end of the story. Goodbye and good riddance, Gomer! No one would have blamed him. But God told Hosea to go after her, to buy her back, and to take her home as his wife again. It wasn’t just an unusual story – it was an illustration of the way Israel had run off from God, and He was patiently going to great lengths to bring them back to Him as a nation.
Hosea 11: 9 I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim. For I am God, and not man-- the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath.
God’s dealings with Israel are often a precursor to the way He deals with all of us. We’ve run off. We deserve for God to be angry at us – like a wife who has run off and been unfaithful in the worst of ways. But God has different plans. He created us to live with Him forever. That’s why He made us in the first place. So, God has a plan to bring us back.
You need to know this morning, or if you already knew it....... Kool Beans, or you need to be reminded, that God wants you back. We’ve wandered off from God, and spurned His love like a rebellious wife. But God has been wooing us back to Himself. “He will save His people from their sins.”
I don’t know about you – no wait, I do know about you – I Need a savior because I’ve sinned. If Paul were here, He would say “We All Have Sinned and have fallen short by the Glory of God!!.” I don’t know how you feel about it!! I’m glad that His name is Jesus, because I need a
savior! We need a savior. The Jews needed a savior. But this phrase, “His people” can’t be just for the Jews. The gospel message is for the Jew first, but Jesus didn’t come just so that Jews could be forgiven and saved.
1 Timothy 4:10 we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
No, “He will save His people from their sins” must mean “the Jesus people” – the ones who are willing to take on His name, to identify with Him, to be part of His family. Like Paul wrote,
Philippians 3:10-11 “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.”See, Paul was one of “His people.”If the Saviour has not sanctified you, renewed you, given you a hatred of sin and a love of holiness, he has done nothing in you of a saving character. “Without holiness no man shall see the Lord.” “ Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” If not saved from sin, how shall we hope to be counted among his people. I can’t go to my last point without telling you the steps of SALVATION!!!
HEAR THE WORD 2. BELIEVE THE WORD 3. REPENT 4. CONFESS 5. BE BAPTIZED.
III) THE SAVED
Joel 2:32 (NIV)
32 And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.
The Apostle Peter repeated these words on the day that the Church began. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved…
1 John 4:15(KJV) 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God‑dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Many say to receive Christ, all that you have to do is to confess or say that Jesus is Lord. RECOGNIZING THAT JESUS IS LORD IS NOT ENOUGH TO SAVE US FROM OUR SIN, WE MUST RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST INTO OUR HEART.
Many say to receive Christ, all that you have to do is to believe that Jesus is Lord.
MARK (Chapter 16)
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
King James Version JOHN (Chapter 11)
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
King James Version JOHN (Chapter 6)
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life
King James Version ROMANS (Chapter 5)
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
IV. CONCLUSION

Sinners are Jesus’ specialty!! The bible tells us that not only is God precise with sin, but He is also merciful toward sinners. Jesus is your ‘guilt offering.” I challenge you to “Release your guilt to the CROSS and PRAISE Him, knowing that you were once a sinner but now have been forgiven. I come to remind you that if you haven’t given your life to Christ, it’s not too late; Time is Running Out!!! There Is Still Hope!!! Once you’ve committed yourself to Him you can say; “My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
