Chris is not gone
Chris is not gone
We are here today to celebrate the life of Chris and the way he loved his family and friends. Also today brings the realization for us all that the every day conversations and interactions with Chris are no longer there. While this brings sadness and a desire for the relationship that used to be this also brings an opportunity for us all to understand that Chris is not gone. Today we will look at John 14:1-6
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
In this passage Jesus is preparing the disciples for his death and his departure from this earth. They have spent every day with Jesus and want to continue doing so. This however is not possible. In order for Gods plan of redemption for our world to happen Jesus had to leave and he had to be crucified. Jesus understood his role in God’s desire to unite the world to himself. In the same manner Chris did not leave for good. Jesus in this passage makes it clear that life ending on earth is not the last stop for anyone who believes in him. Chris made it clear that he believed in Jesus and that he understood who Jesus was.
Chris is in a prepared place
Chris is in a prepared place
God’s desire is that no one should perish without a personal relationship with Him. 2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
On Saturday February the 12th Chris took his last breath on this earth. Chris shed his flesh and no longer deals with the pain that this world brings with it. Chris left this world and immediately entered his prepared place with the Lord. John 14:3
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
We also know that this was immediate.
43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
We can be with Chris again
We can be with Chris again
Through Jesus Christ we are offered an opportunity to be reunited with Chris and all of our loved ones who believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Just as Chris did we can follow the Bible Romans 10:9-10
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
This is not a confession of our sin but a confession of belief in Jesus that he is who he says he is and he is who God said he is. We must truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he lived a sinless life and he was crucified and three days later defeated death and rose from the grave. You see God in in the reconciliation game. God wants to reconcile all people to himself.
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
Today if you have not believed in Jesus and have not confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord you can change that now. You can have a full understanding that you will one day be reunited with Chris and will get to enjoy the fullness of your relationship with him.
