Look Up to the Source SLIDE
Look Up to the Source SLIDE
John 6:29–31 (CSB)
Jesus replied, “This is the work of God—that you believe in the one he has sent.”
“What sign, then, are you going to do so that we may see and believe you?” they asked. “What are you going to perform? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”
Jesus sees this crowd and He begins to tell them that they are focused on the wrong things so He tells them what the Work of God is and He tells them in verse 29 that it is to believe in the one He sent (spoiler alert that is Jesus)
Jews hear Jesus say that and so they lead off with this question what gives you the right How are you going to do this Which is just absolutely crazy because He literally just fed these people
And they mention Manna ( What the heck is that well let me tell ya)
PICTURE OF MANNA
Talk about how this after EGYPYT PHARRO-
Exodus 16:3,4
Exodus 16:4 (CSB)
Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. This way I will test them to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.
Small grain , tasted like wafers of honey and it helped get them over 40 years
John 6:32–34 (CSB)
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, Moses didn’t give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Then they said, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
Jesus begins to tell them that it is not Moses but it was God and He begins to tell them that The bread of God gives life and they want that but here is the biggest problem
They have their eyes fixed on the wrong thing. So when Jesus gives the big reveal in verse 35 Slide here I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.
He is saying come to Him
But they
We must look at things with a Heavenly perspective, not a world perspective. We have to believe with a Heavenly perspective.
When we look to him our struggles diminish.
Just like the Jews, we struggle with seeing but we also struggle with believing
John 6:36 (CSB)
But as I told you, you’ve seen me, and yet you do not believe.
STORY OF AMARETTO- EM
Start on How 1st girl cheated and How you prayed for the next one to be the one (You put your way ahead of God)
2nd Girl was really God fearing, amazing person, really caring, just a good soul (Saw her as my source)
Encounter leading worship and Brittony began to pray Lord if there are things in our lives that take the place of You remove it
When she said that God said look up and “She was right in front of me” so I knew I had to break up with her
Only did it for awhile got back together
Am I not enough for You
John 6:53–54 (CSB)
So Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves. The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day,
Main Point: Belief requires sacrifice. It requires sacrifice to knowing what’s next. Its a sacrifice to knowing how things are going to turn out. When we look to Jeuss as the sourced we know things are going to be okay. We =know our eternity is in him.
It is hard. There are many people falling away from Jesus.
I love the story of Simon at the end.
Somewhere around here invite the team back up.
We need to believe because he gives life.
Ending with John 6:68-69 INVITE TEAM BACK UP HERE
John 6:68–69 (CSB)
Simon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
The question of “Is He enough?” This is the question we have to ask ourselves. Is having him as our bread and water enough? Is looking up to him enough? The answer to this needs to be yes. It needs to be only Jesus.
If it’s not in him, I don’t want it. I want Jesus to be the only thing that satisfies me. When you see the kingdom, you’ll see your life change.
