INTRO—
What is this?
[A table lamp; Lamp stand; Light]
What does it do?
[Provides light; lights up a room]
How does it work?
[You plug it in & turn it on with the knob]
What if I could turn this on without touching it at all? [Cool?…!; phone app…also Alexa or Google or Siri]
Light is Cool!
But…who made it?
[this one: people in a factory; Thomas Edison…]
Ultimately, GOD made light!
Genesis 1.1-5 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”
There was an evening, and there was a morning: one day.”
The BEST LIGHT in the World, Ever!
JESUS!
John 8.12 “Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world.
Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.””
How easy is it to move around in darkness (like total darkness)?
[really hard…hurting your toes kind of hard; like dimming this light…makes it harder to see in the room, etc.]
We Can REFLECT Jesus’ Light to the World.
When we trust Jesus to forgive our sins and save us…
Romans 3.23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;”
Romans 6.23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3.16 “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
…we can then let our light shine for others to see!
Matthew 5.14-16 ““You are the light of the world.
A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Jesus is right…it doesn’t make sense for me to turn on this light and then put a trash can over it.
Does it?
Just like we should be excited to tell others that we go to a Christian school, that we regularly go to church, that our family loves Jesus…and we want others to love Jesus, repent of their sin, and follow what Jesus has told us in the Bible.
