Recap: Daniel 9: 24-27

Verses 24-25 -

The word “week” simply means 7

7 weeks = 7 sets of years (7*7 = 49 years)

At this time the decree would be issued for the people to be released and for Jerusalem and the temple to be rebuilt (Ezra and Nehemiah)

Verse 26...

From the time of Israel’s release from captivity, the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple, there would be “threescore and two weeks”until the Messiah would be born, grow up and die

1 score = 20.

3 score = 60

3 score and 2 = 62

62 weeks (7*62 = 434)

49 + 434= 483 years

Look back at verse 24...

Daniel 9:24 (KJV 1900)

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Question:

Where is the last week?

Answer:

The tribulation period, after the rapture of the church

This reference is to the Antichrist

Now, look at Revelation 13...

There are two “wild” beasts listed here:

The Wild beast out of the sea

Verses 1-10

This is the political leader of the day

The Wild Beast out of the earth

Verses 11-18

This is the religious leader of the day

Question

Which one is the Antichrist?

Answer

Both!

What is the desire of the Antichrist?

Its the same desire that Satan has...

To be worshiped!

(Revelation 13:11-18)

He will set up a living statue of himself in the temple of God

The false prophet will cause the entire earth to worship the image

At the midpoint of the tribulation Satan will accomplish his life-long goal of being worshiped

His true Colors Revealed

Back to Matthew 24

When the antichrist moves against Israel the readers of this prophecy will understand what to do:

RUN! Verses 16-26

Luke 21:20 says something similar but the context is the invasion of Titus in AD 70

Here the warning to flee comes when the living statue is set up for worship

The setting up of the statue ushers in the “great tribulation”

What Should People Expect?

Verses 16-18 encourage those who will witness these events to make haste in their escape

19-20 tell us that for those who are pregnant or handicapped that this will be an extremely difficult time for them

21-22 inform us that this will be the darkest day in Israel's history

The phrase “And except those days be shortened” means allowed to run their course

If God allowed this to go on indefinitely no one would survive.
