Patience = endurance, temperance - God works through suffering
God builds through suffering
Suffering brings us to awareness of our need for God
Marital problems
Health problems
To be a bright witness for Christ
Godliness = A call from God to respond like God when we suffer.
Your suffering is an opportunity to respond
Christ’s character living through you no matter what is going on in your circumstances
“The proof of Godliness is when God is seen through you when you suffer.”
God wants to see Christ in you - he will continue to perform the good work He started in you
The world needs to see Christ in you in the worst of times
even in the best of times
Add godliness to Patience
God * Likeness - not in pride like Lucifer
Be ye holy for I am holy.
You are being called, by God, unto godliness.
Suffering reveals who you really
Godliness is Christ’s character living through you.
This is a process that involves suffering
We can’t say we’re godly unless we find ourself in suffering responding like Jesus in suffering
8 But now, O Lord, thou art our father; We are the clay, and thou our potter; And we all are the work of thy hand.
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
That’s what God uses
like clay - wet
then pressure is applied
then He places a hole in you
because he wants to fill you
then he finds a hard spot
then He must start over
When the heat is applied it will not keep it’s integrity, it’ll break
Then He fires it - He puts it in the furnace
We don’t like the heat
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
This is Godlikeness
This is how Jesus responded
This is how I want you to respond, I’m giving you a pattern
It may be a negative word
It may be a harsh word
Not irritated
Not harsh
God allows the adversity
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
Legal dispute - give him more if he asks
This is what Jesus did
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Roman soldiers had the ability to stop anyone 12 years or older to carry something for him
Go further Christians -
Believers go further, not because it’s required
Not because we’re being legalistic
What does the Spirit say
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
If someone asks you and has a need, give it
God says be like me
I like giving - its fun
Dont worry about it
Dont expect them to give it back
Dont lend, give
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Be like God
Be followers of God
The world will see that we are God’s children when we model this
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
We have a power in us that is far greater than any earthly power of the flesh
Jesus was troubled but not distressed
The Spirit of Christ lives in us - we dont have to be distressed
We fall in this area - but we dont have to stay down
We’re ok
vs 10 - this isn't about us is it?
Death in a father, so life in children
death in a christian, for life in another
death in a husband, so life can work in a wife

We give reasons why we cannot be godly
reasons why husbands cant be like christ
Father forgive, for they know not
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Is that what you do in the workplace
Is that what you say in the home
Isn't that what you say at church
righteous indignation
Jesus was nailed
Back opened to the bone

Blood pouring
He couldve called the angels
Wasn't Jesus a bright light
Mat 27:54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Mar 15:39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
When people see godliness in you when you are attacked
You are recognized as a son of God
Something deep inside you, not a costume you where
In your spirit, you cry out to be like Jesus
Do you want that ?
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
There is only one version - It’s like Jesus
Get rid of the version of anger
frustration
Let people read your life
You are a Christian aren’t you? Isn’t that a great thing?
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Not a name that they came up with
Not a name of distain
A name that displayed how they resembled the Saviour

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Suffering correctly produces godliness
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
Adding godliness
Living to the will of God
We pray to live like Jesus that we might experience the power of the miraculous, but would we pray to be like Jesus when He suffered?
When we add to our faith godliness, we are willing for Him to put our flesh to death that His life, responses, and character will be seen through us.
Giving all diligence
“God I want to be like you. Help me not to respond in the flesh. Help me not to think in the flesh”
If we walk in the spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
