Who Is God?

Has anyone ever gotten who you are wrong?

Maybe they judged you by the way you dress, the music you listen to, your actions rather than your intentions & your heart?

You are more than your actions (but your actions are important)

You are more than your characteristics (but sometimes your characteristics are important)

What personal characteristics do you find important in a friend?

-Oh, are YOU being that or just expecting those things from others?

You are more than the clothes you wear, or the amount of money you have, or what kind of family you have.

I think God has gotten a lot of bad press or questionable press that many of us have believed

What are some of the negative things you have heard about God?

God is more than the press He has received or what you might think about Him.

Would you like people to believe the press about you, or what you say about yourself?

Here are a few things that God says about Himself.

1 John 1:5 NKJV

5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

God is Holy

Holy = Clean

How clean is clean - 100%

God is good.

Period!

Exodus 34:6–7 (NIV)

6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

Numbers 23:19 NIV

19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Jeremiah 9:24 NKJV

24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

Ezekiel 33:11 NKJV

11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’

Malachi 3:6 NKJV

6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

God is Real!

God is the creator of ALL Things - including you and me!

Think about a book -

Could a book have just randomly put itself together?

Scientists say all the world’s data can fit on a DNA hard drive the size of a teaspoon.

We have about 100 trillion meters of DNA in our body - enough to go roundtrip from Earth to the sun about 300 times

Can that much information in order be an accident?

God can be known & wants to be known by you

Hebrews 3:9–10 NKJV

9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. 10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’

God was upset because these people saw all His actions, but still didn’t know Him.

You don’t get to know someone just by watching what they do. You know someone by spending time with them in many different situations.

Jeremiah 29:11–14 NKJV

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.
