What is something in your life that has affected every part of your life?
In what ways has it affected every part of your life?
Being Devoted To Prayer
Luke 11:1–13 CSB
He was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.” He said to them, “Whenever you pray, say, Father, your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone in debt to us. And do not bring us into temptation.” He also said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I don’t have anything to offer him.’ Then he will answer from inside and say, ‘Don’t bother me! The door is already locked, and my children and I have gone to bed. I can’t get up to give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his friend’s shameless boldness, he will get up and give him as much as he needs. “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
(Prayer)
When and Where To Pray?
Luke 11:1 CSB
He was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.”
The scriptures share many times when Jesus prayed:
Baptism:
Luke 3:21 CSB
When all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. As he was praying, heaven opened,
After Ministering:
Matthew 14:23 CSB
After dismissing the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Well into the night, he was there alone.
Mark 6:46 CSB
After he said good-bye to them, he went away to the mountain to pray.
Luke 6:12 CSB
During those days he went out to the mountain to pray and spent all night in prayer to God.
In the Midst of Suffering:
Matthew 26:39 CSB
Going a little farther, he fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Luke 23:34 CSB
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided his clothes and cast lots.
Are you intentional about your prayer life?
“Prayer isn’t a backup plan, it’s should be the first plan!”
How To Pray:
Luke 11:2–4 CSB
He said to them, “Whenever you pray, say, Father, your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone in debt to us. And do not bring us into temptation.”
Our prayers should honor the Lord, seek wisdom to live like children of the Kingdom of God, ask for divine strength for the day, confess any sins, and put on the armor of God.
Example:
Father, thank you for today. Thank you, by Your grace, that we have the freedom to gather here this weekend. Jesus, teach me to be salt and light this weekend. Teach me to love on the students and leaders. I pray that we all know Your love. Father, I ask for the divine strength to get me through this day. I confess that my flesh wants this weekend to be a “perfect weekend.” Father, I can’t make anything perfect, but You are the perfecter of all things. Holy Spirit, move this weekend in ways that haven’t been seen before. Protect me from the attacks and lies of the enemy through the sword of the Word and the shield of faith. Lord Jesus, all glory, honor, and praise is given to you and you alone. In Jesus Christ name. Amen.
“Prayer should never be robotic. Prayer is a time to look inwardly and speak upwardly to the Father.”
Pray Consistently:
Luke 11:5–13 CSB
He also said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I don’t have anything to offer him.’ Then he will answer from inside and say, ‘Don’t bother me!
“Praying is how we keep knocking on Jesus’ door.”
Ephesians 3:20 CSB
Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us—
“We will keep knocking if we truly believe in the power of Christ.”
