Romans 10:9–10 KJV 1900
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Thirteen days ago, on Superbowl Sunday, I received a call from Abby Dively, Albert’s daughter. She said that her dad wanted to see me. Albert had been in and out of the hospital for almost a year now. First one thing and then another. On that day he asked to speak with me. In all honesty, Albert and I had sort of on the outs with each other for awhile. Albert knew that he was dying, and he needed to do business with God. On that day he not only wanted to talk to me, but several others. He had messages to share, amends to make, affairs to set in order.
That afternoon we talked and made things right with each other. One of the things that we talked about was this service here today. Albert’s favorite verse in the Bible is this passage that I read a few moments ago. It is the story of his life.
In Romans 10:2
Romans 10:2 KJV 1900
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
Albert was born on March 20, 1943. He grew up right here in Everett and attend Everett High School. in his younger years was employed at the service stations in Everett and Breezewood that were owned and operated by his Dad, Albert J. Kline. He drove truck for Bedford Valley Petroleum for over 25 years and was the last of a core group that worked together there.
Albert loved to hunt and fish. He took several fishing trips with his brother Herk, son Todd and grandson Shannon to several places including New York and Canada. Albert believed in God and was a good man. But like the Israelites that Paul wrote about their was something missing.
On July 27, 1989 something happened that would forever change Albert’s life. His son Mitchel died. It was a very sad and difficult time. A father should never have to bury a son. Albert did a lot of soul searching during this time; It was shortly after that, on August 29, 1989 that Albert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Albert did exactly what that verse spoke of. He confessed with his mouth. Not only did he confess his sins, but he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ. and he believed in his heart. He believed the gospel.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 KJV 1900
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
On that day, he was wonderfully and marvelously saved.
Albert took seriously Jesus promise to his disciples in Matthew 4:19
Matthew 4:19 KJV 1900
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Albert loved the Lord and had a deep faith. He attended Colonial Hills Baptist Church and was instrumental in the early days. He served on the board, taught Sunday school and served as Deacon. He was a man of his word. One of my fondest memories was going out in the neighborhood behind our church and visiting in homes of people sharing the gospel with them with Albert at my side.
Albert will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a man of God and he lived his life as an example of what men of character do.
How can we memorialize a man of this nature. Some people would buy a beautiful headstone, others might put a sticker on the back of their car, some might get a tattoo, others might make a donation in his memory. There is nothing wrong with any of these displays of affection and admiration. But if you truly wanted Albert’s life and death to be memorialized there is no better way than to make the same decision that Albert made following the death of his own son. to give your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ and make him your Lord and Savior today.
#1. This was his wish that people would know Jesus because of him.
#2. You will know that you will go to heaven and see both Albert and Mitchel again.
#3. Albert’s only regret was that he did not make this decision sooner.
How can I do this.
A - Admit that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23)
B. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9-10)
C . Call or Choose Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:13).
