The story of David & Bathsheba tells us a lot about the nature of sin, which corrupts every one of us as much as it corrupted David. But the story also sheds light on our natural inclination to fix the problem ourselves and how wrong that can go. We’re like someone trying to patch a deep wound with a dirty band-aid even though the doctor is ready with his sterilised needle and stitches. The human solutions to sin are no better than the sin itself, and they fail every time. God’s grace is the only true and permanent fix.
