Why Church: Jesus prayed for it

Prayed for my dad.
A time you have really prayed hard for something, and you had the opportunity to see it come to pass.
What did Jesus Pray for? Model prayer in Matthew 6, “the model prayer.” Today we get a peak into, not just how Jesus prayed, but what Jesus prayed

3 This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent—Jesus Christ.

8 because I have given them the words you gave me. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me.

Holy Father, protect them by your name that you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one.

15 I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

Sanctify? What do we make of this statement? “Sanctify them?” Make them Holy, set them apart. Why Church? We are set apart from the world. NOT separate, set APART

Unity

20-21 Believers who believe the message, may they be ONE,

he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; 52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

Picture of the Trinity.
That love relationship between the Father and the Son that is the HOLY SPIRIT
quote created for community
“May they also be in us.”

Fellowship

22-23
verse 24, “to be with me where I am”
Instead of heaven, it cross references to
Jn 12:26: “my servant be.”

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

The fellowship with God the Father, through Jesus the son, is an invitation to serve.
The fellowship of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit produces Servants.

Servants

Do we think about our relationship with God in terms of status and authority / Humility and a towel
Do we fantasize about that glorious day in heaven to be reunited with loved ones / do we acknowledge the grind of servanthood all around us?
Do we cringe at the thought of serving in a way that makes us uncomfortable? Do we embrace it as the Spirits work within us, making us more like, and helping us know more the “Son of Man.”
“Boy” as used in the south.
Bond servant of Christ. GET LOW, saved to serve, saved to be a servant.
What can you do to show that you are a servant of Jesus? Think in concentric circles.
