Transferring The Blessing
A Parent’s Legacy – A Child’s Inheritance. How can we do this?
Genesis 27:26-29
And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son. 27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said,See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed: 28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, And the fatness of the earth,And plenty of corn and wine:29 Let people serve thee, And nations bow down to thee: Be lord over thy brethren, And let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: Cursed be every one that curseth thee, And blessed be he that blesseth thee.
1. Love them – highly value them. Highly value their success by being actively committed to them and physically and emotionally present for them. The one praying the blessing should ask God for guidance in empowering and equipping the person being blessed.
1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down ourlives for the brethren.
1. People care when they know you care.
2. Jesus showed us Committed Care by valuing us so much He gave His life for ours.
He’s a shepherd that will face the wolf on our behalf, knows our name.
2. Affirm Their Identity - Highly value them then pray/speak life over them. Life giving words honor the person being blessed and inspire them to live up to who God has created them to be. Jesus had life giving words spoken over Him by the Father. How much more so should we do that for our children! Share God’s thoughts and feelings about the person.
Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
A teacher asked a class of children to write things that they liked about one another. The children loved it. 15 years later one of the classmates went home after serving in the war. His buddy said he’d pull out a price of paper when things got rough.
3. Prophetically Speak Destiny Over Them. Give them a picture of what you see in them and for them to help propel them into their destiny. Help them to envision their future. Share God’s thoughts and feelings about the person’s future.
Numbers 6:24–26 The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: 25 The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
1. A vision to fulfill. A reputation to live up to.
2. Security of something to look forward to.
3. A child’s mother comes home and tells her son what a beautiful drawing. The famous artist said it was at that moment he decided to be a painter.
How would you like to lower your husband’s or wife’s blood pressure? Protect your grade-school child from being involved in an immoral relationship later in life? Even add up to two years to your own life?
4. Loving touch – A lot can be said with a loving touch. In fact it can last for all eternity in the soul of the person touched. Loving, appropriate touch releases life and warmth. It says there is nothing between us. Touch is often used to transmit God’s power into others in the Bible (Luke 13:13; Matt 19:14-15; Acts 6:6; 1 Tim. 4:14; Mark 8:22-25) In the below verses, we see Jesus lovingly touching the leper.
Matthew 8:3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
1. God is always with us but sometimes we need someone with skin on.
2. People need 8-10 meaningful touches a day. An overcrowded orphanage recorded many cases of infant death. It was found that the children needed nurturing touch.
