What’s Your Life Verse? (Let’s talk about them)
2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Churches of today have an almost fanatical emphasis on grace to the total exclusion of obedience, self-discipline, patience, personal holiness, cross carrying, discipleship and other such precious doctrines of the New Testament.” (Tozer)
What I would like to do this morning is to examine some life verses to see where we stand, and how they (the scriptures) are impacting our lives.
I have a couple of my own – but I more interested in yours.
· Psalm 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
· Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
The people provided:
· Romans 12:1-2
· Psalm 3:3
· Ephesians 3:20
· Psalm 121:1
· Ecclesiastes 12:13
· John 14:15
· John 3:16
A few common ones might include: (Use if no one is sharing theirs).
· James 4:7-10, while not a typical life verse, needs to be adhered to daily.
· Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
o For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
o Joshua 1:8
· Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
· Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
· Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
· Psalm 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
· Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
· Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
o But we don’t always see the good right away, if at all.
· Romans 8:38-38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
