Review

The Word of Knowledge: WHAT IT IS

1. DEFINITION - The spiritual gift of the WORD OF KNOWLEDGE is the bestowal of certain facts from the mind of God which He sees fit to reveal to one of His servants supernaturally by His Spirit. It is only a word, or a portion of God's endless storehouse of knowledge.

2. PURPOSES - It helps one to look into the heart, mind, or nature of a man and to know his secrets and intentions. It has helped find lost articles, as in 2 Kings 6, but its main purpose is to help find lost souls as in the book of Acts.

THE WORD OF WISDOM: WHAT IT IS

1. DEFINITION - Just as wisdom is knowledge rightly applied, so the Spiritual gift of the word of wisdom is the supernatural ability to apply knowledge already possessed, regardless of how one obtains that knowledge. It is knowledge rightly applied by the Spirit. It is God showing the WHAT, WHY, WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW of a problem. It is the supernatural solution to trouble.

2. PURPOSE - It builds a church and brings revival.

III. DISCERNING OF SPIRITS. WHAT IT IS

1. DEFINITION - Discerning of spirits is God's Spirit informing a spirit filled Christian, which type of spirit is being manifested. It is a supernatural look into the spiritual world.

2. APPLICATIONS - This gift can show the kinds of spirits which are working in people today; such as unclean spirits, deaf and dumb spirits, demonic spirits, oppressing spirits, or even the Holy Spirit. This gift is a requirement for all who are used of God in a deliverance ministry. Without it, those who seek to minister deliverance are simply left guessing at whether or not a demonic spirit is actually present and if so, what type of demonic spirit. This gift is also a requirement of all those who operate in a prophetic ministry, for without it they would not be able to sit by and judge the prophesies of others as they are called to do in 1Cor 14:29 which says, "Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge."

3. PURPOSE - This gift is given to keep the church safe from demonic presence and practices.

1 John 4:1–3 NLT

1 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. 2 This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. 3 But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.

John is calling the church to test everyone to see if they have Gods spirit. At the time he wrote this letter it was a lot of false prophets, false Apostles & the Nicolaitans who where imposters, deceiving many in vain imagination

1 Corinthians 12:8–10 AV

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

This gift has one purpose: to Know the spirit behind.

If you are not careful you can use this gift to discern and judge.. and Expose

1 Peter 4:8 NKJV

8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

The operation of this gift is vital for all believers and absolutely crucial for prophetic people.

As a prophetic person, you will deal with unusual realms of opportunity and opposition. The enemy will try to dilute your purity with false spirits sending false messages through impure people.

Motive Matters! This includes a wrong spirit hiding behind the scenes and motivating a person

Prophetic People must have the ability to see and know the thing behind the thing. This is the operation of this spectacular gift given to the Church

Discerning of Spirts is a spiritual gift given exclusively to the body of believers for the purpose to knowing what spirit is in operation.

2 Peter 2:1–3 NKJV

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

They appear to be teachers and prophets to win the hearts of the hearers, but there motives are to distort the truth by secretly bringing destructive heresies.

We Must Know The Lord’s Spirit:

Isaiah 11:2 NASB95

2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

Galatians 5:22–23 NKJV

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Last Point: Prophetic People responsibility

1 Corinthians 13:2 AMP

2 And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody).

When we walk in love we build others up,

Love builds, anger tears down.

The Love of God motivates prophetic gifts & prophetic people to strengthen & build others

The Motivation is key:

The discerning of Spirits will reveal harsh truths, but the Love of God is still present and working when this gift is properly stewarded.
