Last week - Jesus feeds the 4k - Love is only possible when we give Jesus everything and then take what he has given us lovingly give to others.
Speaking Truth - You look like God - do you act like God?
Matthew 22:15–22 (ESV)
15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words.
Arrested
Pharisees (strict) & Herodians (play on the winning team)
16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.
its not always so easy to know why someone is asking you something - Herodians give it away
Don’t play favorites - appeals to Truth but not really seeking it
17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?
19 Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius.
20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”
21 They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
The simplicity & complexity of Jesus - not stock answer, but alignment with God
Not military or political threat - for now the kingdom will operate in the existing order
God’s is more than a tax - its everything - steward your life well
Not 2 compartments - God first
Dont withdraw (Amish) marry the world (Denominations)
Ambassador - doesn’t quite hold the same weight it used to.
22 When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away.
The constant in the universe is that you are built to live for God and be his ambassador for him
George Shultz - Secretary of State under Reagan - would test ambassadors with a globe. Mike Mansfield ambassador of Japan got the answer right.
What if we gave more advice like Jesus did?
Weather people are seeking truth or not - don’t forget who you belong to.
Speaking truth - get something off your chest, avoid

When we speak truth we want to do knowing they are the image of God and that Jesus loved them.
You can’t speak truth if you don’t know who you are or who you are talking to
