Jesus Teaching Daily in the Temple

Luke 19:45–48 ESV
And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers.” And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.
I. Jesus teaching Truth.
A. God’s Purpose and Plan for the future.
B. The cleansing work of Christ.
Problem:Religious Activity but not relationships with the Father.
Jesus looking for real fruit of righteousness that comes from a relationship with God.

And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.”
1 Corinthians 6:19 ESV
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
Luke 4:32–39 ESV
and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region. And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.
God’s Authority over us - Jesus confronts/challenges/convicts sinners to be cleansed.
Empty religion builds barriers, True worship builds bridges.
II. Areas in our lives that needs cleaning.
Psalm 51:2 ESV
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
Psalm 51:9–10 ESV
Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Evil in the heart. 6 things that God hates: Pro.6:18
Proverbs 6:18 ESV
a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,
Conclusion: Jesus came to bring God’s plan of salvation and to give people hope for the future. Cleansing the temple was precedent for the cross.
