I’m under Construction -Job

Job 42:1–8 NKJV
Then Job answered the Lord and said: “I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Listen, please, and let me speak; You said, ‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’ “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.” And so it was, after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.”
How do you respond when you do what is right and everything goes wrong? How do you handle life when Life gives you a curve ball. How do you endure a panademic when you didn’t have a plan.
How do you handle when bad things happen to good people. I want to continue in this series of sermons on I am under construction. I believe that sometimes God allows things to happen to so that he get more out of us.
Jim Collins in his book from Good to Great, again states that the enemy of Greatness is just being good enough. He also says you have to confront the brutal fact before you can have a breakthrough.
Such is the case in the Book of Job.
We know the story of Job. But just in case you need to brush up on him. Let me give you some of history.
Job had Intergrity
Job is a wealthy man living in a land called Uz with his large family and extensive flocks. He is “blameless” and “upright,” always careful to avoid doing evil One day, Satan (“the Adversary”) appears before God in heaven. God boasts to Satan about Job’s goodness, but Satan argues that Job is only good because God has blessed him abundantly. Satan challenges God that, if given permission to punish the man, Job will turn and curse God. God allows Satan to torment Job to test this bold claim, but he forbids Satan to take Job’s life in the process.
Job 1:1 NKJV
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.
2. Job was an Intercessor
Job 1:4–5 NKJV
And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly.
Job was living his Blessed Life?
That is when it happened his faith was Tested
Job 1:6–9 NKJV
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
Really what Satan was saying the only reasons that he worships you is because of the blessing
the only reason that he praises you is because of the blessing
the only reason that he does what he does is because of the blessing.
He was saying he doesn’t worship you because your worthy - he only worships you because you increased his net worth.
He doesn’t praise you because you have power - he only worship you because you packed his pockets
God gave Satan permission to touch everything that he had but he couldn’t him.
See some people only do thing for a check if you don’t pay, them don’t show up.
In one day Job was tried in every area of his life
Finanically
Emotionally
Spiritually
Relationally
Materially
He lost everything
His 401 K was gone
His Family was gone
His Servants were gone
His Business was gone
He lost all of his children that he was praying for!!!
The enemy took his children because it was the direct connection to intercession and the enemy wanted him to intersect his intercession.
Job was grieving going through the stages of grief.
Kubler- Ross 7 stages of grief
shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance.
Job shows how he dealth with Losing it all
Job 1:20-22 “Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.”
He lost everything but it wasn’t over!!!
Job 2:1–10 NKJV
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!” And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes. Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
You have those things that are going on spiritual and you have those things going on in the natural.
In the spiritual Job is being picked out to be picked on. (Have you ever been there). If it wasn’t one thing, it was another.
In the physical Job is now dealing with martial issues. Job’s wife her grief comes out. She said, “I’m going through this two”. Your hold on to your intergrity. Your trying to be whole on.
Let me pause for station identfication. I asked, “God, why didn’t satan do anything to Job’s wife.”
In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Sometimes it hasn’t come out of your mouth, but it is in your heart.
I’m under construction.
Sometimes God must get somethings out of you.
John 15:2 NKJV
Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Job ask some of the most profound questions to God and about God.
He ask about life after death?
Job 14:14 NKJV
If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, Till my change comes.
He speaks his confidence.
Job 19:25–27 NKJV
For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
He ask about God’s presence?
Job 23:8–10 NKJV
“Look, I go forward, but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him; When He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him. But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
Job 42:1–10 NKJV
For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.” So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord commanded them; for the Lord had accepted Job. And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
