1 And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines. They encamped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines encamped at Aphek.
2 The Philistines drew up in line against Israel, and when the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men on the field of battle.
3 And when the people came to the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord here from Shiloh, that it may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies.”
4 So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who is enthroned on the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
5 As soon as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel gave a mighty shout, so that the earth resounded.
6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouting, they said, “What does this great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” And when they learned that the ark of the Lord had come to the camp,
7 the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “A god has come into the camp.” And they said, “Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before.
8 Woe to us! Who can deliver us from the power of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with every sort of plague in the wilderness.
9 Take courage, and be men, O Philistines, lest you become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been to you; be men and fight.”
10 So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell.
11 And the ark of God was captured, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.
7 He peleado la buena batalla, he acabado la carrera, he guardado la fe.
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
We all know that we are in a constant battle against the enemy
Battle:
a. encounter between armies, ships of war, aircraft
b. combat between two persons or entities
c. an Extended battle, contest, struggle, or controversy
d. A struggle to Survive or Succeed!
A Battle against the Enemy
A Battle Against:
1. Your mind
2. Your Thoughts
3. Your emotions
4. Voices
5. Lies
6. Temptations
7. Sin
8. Wrath, Hate, Greed, Envy
9. Imaginations
10. Ghosts, shadows, What if’s, & Maybe’s
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
You might be asking yourself when does this battle end?
How long will I have to Suffer this attack?
I’ll tell you now: as long as we are alive, it never ends.
It is a constant struggle to survive.
Its a struggle between life and death
A struggle between the light and the darkness.
The duality of our existence that was set in motion since Adam and Even ate from the fruit!
We accepted to enter a dualistic reality.
We entered a lower dimension of existence.
But Jesus Christ has given us the keys to the victory!
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
You are either in a battle now, just came out of one, or are heading straight towards one!.
In the Navy on the way back from being in South America for over 7 months on a ship, We get an announcement that PERU has just been hit by an earthquake and that the ship will have to go back!
You are constantly under attack, or threat of attack.
If you do not understand this you will never grow as a Christian.
You will always be tempted to give up (the faith) when the attack arrives.
You will live in a constant state of Defeat
In the words of Scar to the hyenas “BE PREPARED”
There is an emotional darkness that lurks and creeps on the face of the earth.
A cave that invites you to live in it
We see in the scripture that Israel came out to the battle and encamped in “Ebenezer”
Which means
“The Stone of Help” Or
“The Strong Rock” or
“Everlasting Rock” or
“MY STRONG FOUNDATION”
So in theory they had the solution! In theory!
In Theory they knew the “Truth”
What do you KNOW to be TRUE?
Do you operate from:
How do you feel today?
What do you know to be true?
Feelings do not line up with the FACTS
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
10 “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
You will continue to live in suffering if you have an emotional reaction to everything said to you.
There have been days where I “FEEL” like the Psalmist in Psalm 13 but I KNOW what he knew in Psalm 23
1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
4 and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
3 Mira, respóndeme, oh Jehová Dios mío; Alumbra mis ojos, para que no duerma de muerte;
A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
You have to KNOW in order to KEEP THE FAITH
You have to LIVE IT OUT in order to KEEP THE FAITH
You have to fight the battle in order to KEEP THE FAITH.
When the defeat came however, their true colors showed
What was in their hearts was exposed!
4000 men is no small number in any battle.
When we are under pressure is when our hearts are exposed.
When you squeeze an orange.....
3 And when the people came to the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord here from Shiloh, that it may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies.”
Instead of recognizing the need for the Lord himself they sought after something external.
They were so heavily influenced by their neighbors.
Instead of cherishing a spirit of deep humiliation and sincere repentance
They adopted what appeared an easier and a speedier course,
That is what most people seek in time of trouble, The quick answer
A quick word that will get me through this
Bring me something tangible
Operating in a spirit of idolatry
A religious spirit; ceremonial observances,
instead of trusting in GOD they trusted in religion.
But in order to keep the faith your trust has to be soley on GOD!
You must hold fast to his TRUTH
Even when the enemy comes to put doubt
Genesis 3:1 (ESV)
1 “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
When you’re suffering KEEP THE FAITH
When doubt knocks at your door KEEP THE FAITH
When your feelings tell you to get offended KEEP THE FAITH
When they talk bad about you KEEP THE FAITH
When someone betrays you KEEP THE FAITH
When someone is unfaithful KEEP THE FAITH
When you are sick KEEP THE FAITH
If your body is failing you KEEP THE FAITH
This is what you have! and you MUST KEEP IT! Till the END!
There is a crown waiting for you!
13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
