How as people of God do we access power that early church had?

Power to love, forgive, change, heal - to be bold

Today - Being Bold

Emma with Sales person = bold

Mark of early church | Extremely bold together | Bold in prayers | We can pray safe | Why?

We love and honour God | Don’t feel we can ask for it or good at praying | Maybe because some people are really good | Prayer envy | some are professional prayers | God be like = Awesome | Implied point system - Good, yew, bible verse, bonus points, someone says “yes lord” | How can we be more Bold?

Have more Faith?

Title: Make me Bold so I can carry out the Will of God

My Hope: After today, you will not only realise that you can enter the throne of Grace | and that you can and should pray for Boldness | but Bold is inside you.

Move on from Acts 2 | Look at Acts 4 | Context | Peter & John preaching Resurrection, doing miracles, God working | Lame Man - Didn’t walk for 40 years | Peter Healed him.

There was a problem | Religious leaders thought peter and John Cult movement | They went to Prison | Stood trial in front of sehnehedrin | “In who’s name do you do these things”

They where astonished - Amazed blown away | How? Regular, Unschooled- where so bold - Ordinary in greek = Idiotaste = Idiots.

Nothing Special = Incredibly Bold IN JESUS.

Religious leaders looking on - Healing | Miracles | Preaching in Jesus name - Not their religion | They had to stop it | Going to spread.

Charged them = Stop talking about Jesus | What they do?

- Could of lost life.

They Prayed - Of course | Think about context = Religious leaders wanting to kill them | Death sentence | What did they pray?

What they did NOT Pray

Comfortable | Enemies to flee | leave me alone | Offer me the golden parth out

Threat of Death | They had Faith, TRUST,

Question: Do you think your bold?

| Think about it = Scale of 1-10 How bold? 3 or 4? 7 or 8?

Story in the Old Testament | Esther, with Boldness went before the king - “I will go to the king and if I perish, I perish”.

There is another story of boldness | Daniel 3 | Nebuchadnezzar made a big gold Statue | and he declared;

This was a time Israel held captive | Some living in land of Babylon | Would raise up isreal leaders | three young men where raised up - Shadrach Meshach and Abednego.

Nebekenezzer - was furious, ordered the furnace to be turned up 7 times Hotter | Bound these three boys | Thrown into the furnace | Men who through them in there burned up | King furious, boys where not burning - Scripture says;

nebachanezzar was AMAZED | In fact, So amazed - He turned to God and said this;

Look at after effect of being Bold | What would happen if you Got Bold | These three young men where Bold | Jesus Showed up | it might get uncomfortable, but Jesus is right there with you | Place I would like to be |

Let’s look at what God did in Acts after they got Bold;

After Prayer | Place Shook | They where what?

Filled?

Filled with Spirit | Then praeched the word Boldly | You might say, “I;m not a naturally bold person, timid, laid back -

Boldness not personality trait | When Holy Spirit Filled you | You can be FILLED with BOLDNESS

Not personality Trait = Holy Spirit Trait

If you pray this - See Opportunities to be Bold like never before

Someone might be gossiping about someone in the church - Hey, let’s be better

Might see someone alone - Be bold, say hello

Sharing a meal out of comfort zone, you might just do it

Commit to working on relationship - Treating your wife, submitting to husband

What would happen, set an alarm, before work day, before situation, “Make me bold” “Release tension, set intention”

What happen to Peter and John?

Kept preaching, still bold, miracles, acts 5 - Arrested again, in jail, angel came, broke them out, angel said: “Get back to work”

If you want to be BOLD 3 THINGS:

Boldness always triggers Spiritual Opposition - Peter and JOhn | Preached Boldly | Jail | over and over | Doesn’t say “Follow Jesus and they where reaallllllly comfortable - I do not worry when there is opposition from obedience, I worry when there isn’t | If you stand up for name of Jesus - It will not always go well | If you’re not ready to face opposition, you’re not ready to be used by God.

Bold Faith often leads to a realisation of God’s Work - What will happen, is you will start to see God’s hand in everything | You will be like “How did I do that?”

“How did that happen”

No matter what - Boldness Requires Faith - If you want to be Bold, start living by faith, right now, we need to live by faith - That jesus holids it all together

What did Angel say;

Do waht you got arrested for | That thing, get you killed, go do that thing | The call was to OBEDIENCE - NOT OUTCOME.

Question; are you going ot be obedient?

Story about Homeless Guy | No Fruit | No happy ending

We are not bold to achieve our outcome - We are bold to be obedience

You have no idea what might happen.

How can you be bold?

Realise the Lord is Sovereign - They said SOVEREIGN LORD - Stress Powerful control exerted by God

2nd thing you might have missed: Lifted with ONE VOICE - TOGETHER | Created to be dependent on each other and Jesus | In a community | weren’t bold alone - Where bold Together

There is power in the name of JESUS.

THERE IS POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS

How did Peter make the lame man walk?

Acts 3:6

The name every one will kneel | tongue will confess | The name that saves | The name that heals | The name of Jesus Christ

Conclusion

Listen; How will it end?

John dipped in boiling oil | Did not burn | Banished to Patmos

Peter | Crucified upside down “I am not worthy to be crucified like my saviour - That was His reward

Boldness + Obedience brings opposition

But; If you know Jesus like I know Jesus | If you have been FORGIVEN like I have been forgiven - You don’t care about opposition | Happy to take it | Count it as all joy | Joy is your state of being, not an emotion
