Revelation 19:1-16...
There has been a lot happen this week, some things that gives us pause for concern.
Some have mentioned the phrase “World War 3” and many other thoughts have come to mind.
Several things have happened similar to this throughout history.........Today, I just want to encourage us, in Who it is that is will tell time when to stop and tell it also to carry-on.
Tuesday of this week, I was listening to one of my favorite sermons from Voddie Bauchman called “Brokenness”.
One particular part stood out to me, in light of our current circumstances.
The sermon was based on King David’s repentant prayer after he had committed adultery and had his adulteress’s husband killed.
The prayer is found in Psalm 51 and it is a powerful prayer and return to an understanding of Whose he was.
I like what David said in verse 4.......Psalm 51:4 “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done this evil in thy sight: That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.”
David is speaking to God and even though he had harmed many people when he had sinned, he sinned against God.
God is of our only concern, if we make Him our concern, then how we treat others will fall into a rightful place!
The preacher then read Revelation 19:11-16..........Which leads us to our text this morning.....
Revelation 19:1-16.......This is all of what John saw in the vision that was given to him of the “last days”, as Jesus comes at the end of the tribulation, which is known as the battle of Armageddon, which will be the justice on the world and Jesus will establish His Kingdom on this earth and will reign and the lion will lay down with lamb, the kid can go into a den of snakes and not be harmed.
Before we read, I want to make sure we understand, that as of right now, we are a fallen creation, fallen away from the promises of God, the only way the we have been spared from utter or eternal darkness is the life and finished work of Jesus Christ.
However, we still live in a fallen world and live amongst willing participants in this fallen state.
This is evident throughout history, we talked Wed.
night, Jesus was telling His disciples that when people begin to hate you remember that they hated Jesus first.
The fallen world hates the truth of Jesus Christ, because everything about Him reveals their evil, instead of repenting they rebel.
As I said, this is evident throughout history, man cannot keep things together very long.
Look at our country, I believe it was setup to follow along the ways of the Lord, however over the years as fallen humans continue to be given more control, they have squandered what God has given them!
We give credence to leaders and powers on this earth and we worry when things seem out of control, but today I want us to get back to or into, as did David in his prayer, just Who it is that has the final say, Who it is we are, Who it is that all we stand before........
The first 10 verses here are of victory.....how many here knows that if you are of Jesus you are a victorious creature?
Born again, a new creation created in Christ Jesus....this is what makes the difference…Paul says that it is no longer he that lives but Christ lives in him......As we read of these future events we can confidently say of Whose we are and our future is secure, because of the Lamb of God......
Verses 1-3 speak of Heaven and the people there praising God saying “Hallelujah” because of Jesus Christ, salvation has come and His glory has shone all around, He is worthy of honor and He has all the power!
Everyone that Jesus has judged is the truth and it is right.....He has judged the harlot....harlot symbolizes a prostitute but mainly the idea is idolatry and rebellion against the truth.
The harlot symbolizes “Babylon” which is the idea of people that have turned from the truth of God through Christ for the pleasures of the world, they have sold themselves to the worlds pleasure.
One writer wrote: “‘The world likes a complacent, reasonable religion, and so it is always ready to revere some pale Galilean image of Jesus, some meagre anemic Messiah, .…
The truth is that we have often committed adultery with alien ideologies, confounded the Gospel with the religions of nature, and imbibed the wine of pagan doctrines and false principles and deceitful practices.
We have sought to bend the will of God to serve the ends of man, to alter the Gospel and shape the Church to conform to the fashions of the times’
Romans 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.
Amen.”
Anyway the imagery seen by John here is of the saints rejoicing and praising God for judging and destroying all of those that oppose the Truth of God!
Let us be glad and rejoice that the Lord God omnipotent “all-powerful) reigns!!
The minute we think things are out of control, can we stir this up in our minds?
Jesus when He was ascending into Heaven told the disciples....Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Our wondrous Lord and Savior has all the power in Heaven and Earth and He reigns.......His bride (His believers) will be at the marriage supper of the Lamb!
The bride (believers) has made herself ready, how?
Colossians 3:2-4 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
We have put to death the pull of our earthly affections and set our hearts and minds on the life and finished work of Jesus Christ, therefore it is no longer I that is seen but the complete work of Jesus Christ.
By this my sins that have stained me, cannot be seen I am now dressed in complete righteousness!
I am arrayed in “shining purity” because of the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world and now I have a seat at this glorious marriage supper of the Lamb!
John was so overwhelmed by what he saw, he began to worship the angel....he falls as a dead man in chapter 1 and in chapter 22 does it again.........This is so glorious and awesome it is too much to take in!
The angel tells John, basically, that the Godhead is only worthy of honor and praise, he is just a fellowservant with John.
Another thing to add here, notice what the angel tells John.....that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy....the central theme of all true prophecy is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As we have seen over the past couple of years, several people claiming to be prophets, prophesied about the election, some about bad things coming, and you will probably see some come out of the wood work now!
If those prophecies does not lead you to the faithful promise of deliverance in Jesus Christ, then they are of none effect!
Through Scripture, we already know that this world is volatile, because of evil.
We already know that one day the earth will be burned with fervent heat, and thankfully we know, through Scripture we have a hope in Jesus Christ, despite those things we are saved!
I love to hear those politicians talk about “climate change”..........One said a few years ago that the world will be destroyed in 12 years if we don’t get control of it.........Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
That is God!!!
They have no regard for God whatsoever!
Now, to the part I really want to center in on....One day Jesus will come back, He will judge and He will make war......The only One that is Faithful and True!!!!
This will be what they call the battle of Armageddon, the battle of Megiddo, near Palestine but that will be at the end of the Great Tribulation where Jesus comes against those that oppose the Truth of God!
He can judge and He can also make war because of His righteousness (Living rightly)!
Living rightly toward Who? God!
That is one thing I think we forget, is actually Who are we living for?
It will always be God, whether you regard that or not!
Jesus eyes are like a flame fire.....the heat of His judgement is inescapable........He wore many crowns because of His authority over all....Psalm 72:11 “Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: All nations shall serve him.”
He will have a name that no man knows, but Jesus!
What is that name?
No man knows......He is so marvellous and awesome that there are truly no human words that can express it!
The mysteries of the Godhead is so wonderful they cannot be named by a human tongue!
His vesture was dipped in blood......Jesus has already been in battle for our soul, dying on the cross for us, that we might be saved!
Revelation 7:14 “And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest.
And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”
1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
The Word of God.....John referred to Jesus as the Word of God......The truth of God is revealed in Jesus, and by this truth/reality is the world judged!
Hence, out of Jesus’ mouth is a sword, John 7:7 “The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.”.......The rod of Truth!
Oh yeah and the “armies” that are following Jesus are the saints that have been cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb!
Psalm 72:11 “Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: All nations shall serve him.”
The winepress of His wrath is spoken of in Isaiah.......this is graphic, the blood of those that have rejected the truth, their blood will be pressed out like you would stomp on grapes to get the juice out.....It is prophesied that this blood will go for miles and miles!
This is the wrath of Almighty God!!!!
Lastly and most importantly…on Jesus’ clothing will be the Name “King of Kings and Lord of Lords”
You know it might look like things are out of control and evil is winning, but I don’t serve this world, I serve a risen Savior.......He will have the final say.....Yes, I will see trouble, struggle, loss, hurt, this is all because of the judgement that was made because of sin, we live in a fallen world, time, creation, but for those who have placed their lives in the Hands of Jesus, they are saved from this!
We experience some of the awfulness of being fallen, there are good days, yes, and when they come I praise God for His grace, but when they slip away, I praise God for His Grace, because I am saved!
Hebrews 13:5-6 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
Lastly, lets turn to Hebrews 1:5-12...........The exalted Son of God and the everlasting reign, He will not change and He will restore God’s creation from what humans have squandered.........
Right now, times are uncertain to us, we do not know they day nor the hour when Christ will call His church home, but He it is, who we answer to....Romans 14:8 “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.”
That time will come, but I want to encourage you today......that......2 Corinthians 6:1-2 “We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”
Now is the day of salvation, do not let anyone or anything, cause your minds and hearts to be taken away from that promise and do not let anything hinder us from declaring this truth to the world!!!
Because the King of Kings and Lord of Lords had delivered us and has reserved us a place at the marriage supper of the Lamb!
