The adulterous woman
the Jews were ready to destroy this woman.

Read John 8:12-20

John 8:12–20 NASB95
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 “You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone. 16 “But even if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone in it, but I and the Father who sent Me. 17 “Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. 18 “I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.” 19 So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.” 20 These words He spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.

“I Am” Statements

so far we have two “I Am” Statements that Jesus said.
the first time is in John 6:35
John 6:35 NASB95
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
When Jesus says, I Am he is making His place in the Godhead clear.
In Exodus 3:14
Exodus 3:14 NASB95
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”
in the Septuagint, the Greek Old Testament the same words are used (Ego EmmI)
When Jesus says, I AM, this is the same words that He used with Moses
(EGO - Emmi)
So when Jesus says that He is the light of the World, we know that The world itself is darkness.
lets not forget.....
John 1:4–5 NASB95
4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
The World is dark. ALL of It
there should be No doubt that Jesus is God, and He is the light of the world.
The ONLY light.
lets also remember John 3:19-20
John 3:19–20 NASB95
19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
Jesus is the Only Hope
Jesus is the light, the hope.
Those who follow (move behind in the same direction) Him will not walk (have a way of life) in darkness, but will have (Possess, have own) the light of life.
You wont walk in darkness because you cant walk in darkness.
1 John 1:5–6 NASB95
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
Lets look at the key words here:
Walk, darkness, truth,
in other words
If you are in Christ Jesus, if you have a personal relationship with Jesus you are in the Light because of Him and you cant walk in the darkness because it is no longer in your spiritual makeup.
Does that mean that you cant sin anymore?
in this early body you are sinners, and will continue to. But our Hope must be in Christ.
and we are saved in Him.
Those wh accept Jesus as Savior and Lord are saved
Remember Philippians 3
Paul talks of the hope and waiting of our new glorified bodies.
So to be in Jesus Christ means to be in the light. and we ar not in the darkness.
So on this side of heaven, sin will be in our life, but our hope must be in Jesus and being free from sin

v. 13-15

John 8:13–15 NASB95
13 So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 “You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone.

v. 13

Lets look at this.
Does Jesus contradicts himself?
remember.........
John 5:31 NASB95
31 “If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.
The Jews are attempting to mock Him with this statement.
In the Old Testament the testimony of more then one is valid.
Deuteronomy 19:15.
Deuteronomy 19:15 NASB95
15 “A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.
This shows that the Jews

v.14-15

Jesus is not capable of rending false judgement about Himself.
The pharisees are lacking spiritual perception.
The pharisees are judging Jesus based on His human standards.
When Jesus is talking about judging. He is not judging the way that the hypocritical Jewish elites are
Jesus says that He is not judging anyone. (remember John 3:17)

v.16

Jesus judging is just, simply because He is God.
The Father and the Son are witness together
John 8:17–18 NASB95
17 “Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. 18 “I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”

v.17-18

John 8:17–18 NASB95
17 “Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. 18 “I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”
Deuteronomy 17:6 NASB95
6 “On the evidence of two witnesses or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death; he shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness.
Jesus is saying that He testify about Himself
Jesus testifies about Himself, about His Messianic claims. HE IS GOD
and the Father also testifies about Him also.

v.19-20

John 8:19–20 NASB95
19 So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.” 20 These words He spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.
We have the chance to see that there is a clear ignorance of the Jews
Jesus states here that they do not know God.

Wait a minute!!

Are these men no religious men?
don’t these men know the scriptures?
But Jesus is saying that they don’t know God.
The Jews wanted to have Jesus show who His witness is.
The thing is that the God that they think they are serving is the witness for Christ.
not realizing that God Himself is a witness
Those who reject Jesus can’t know God.
The fullest of Jesus Christ is the fullness of God.
Jesus is preaching in the treasury. This location was important because it is where money is kept.
This is an important location for the Jews, because this is were the woman is.
But they did not seized Him because again His time has not come.
