Introduction

Hello everyone. It is a pleasure to be here with you tonight. Thank you to Pastor Mark and Pastor Jesse for this opportunity to preach. Someone once said that there is nothing more powerful in this world than a story. I want to share a story with you before we dive into the Bible. This story goes way back to a time in my life that seems like a blur. It is from a time that i was a freshman in high school. I was 14 and a new student at Branham High School. Anyone here go to Branham? I remember that i wanted more than anything, was to be friends with the cool kids. I wanted to know what i was like to have friends that were popular. I was a nerdy kid who didn’t really have friends. So how was i going to accomplish my goal? I became the GUM GUY. You heard me right. I was known as the GUM GUY. I would go to 7-11 every morning before class and buy packs and packs of gum and hand them out to the cool kids. They would gather around me and i would give them as much gum as they could chew. They would say things like “YOU’RE THE BEST”, THANKS GUM GUY”. The things that they said made me feel special. They made me feel like i was important. They made me feel like i finally had cool friends. I started to think to myself, where were the invites to hangout? Where were the friends who would have my back? Where were the friends who cared for me? The sad part about this story is that they never came and they never cared. They only pretended too care because i gave them something. When i eventually stopped spending a fortune on gum, they disappeared and didn’t talk to me again.

Maybe some of you here tonight might feel uncared for. Maybe some of you here tonight might have a person in your life who pretends to care or do things for you just to get something out of you? Maybe you have been that person yourself to another?

Our Bible passage tonight mentions people who just want things from Jesus. The main thing i would like for us to see tonight is how Jesus responds to these people and what he does. As we focus on Jesus’s response to these people, it should lead us to know and worship Jesus as our caring provider.

WIth that, please turn in your Bible to Mark 6:30-44, 30 jThe apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. 35 And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men

Tonight we will look at 2 points that will help us understand what it means that Jesus is a caring provider. The first point is Jesus cares for people spiritually.
