And You Don’t Know Where to Turn Jeremiah 18:1-3 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

To begin with brothers and sisters, there is a powerful potent and pulsating message here in this Jeremiah 18 text. Because all of us at some point or another in life are broken, Whether we admit it or not. Whether we reveal it or not, or whether we express it or not we’ve been broken before. Some of us are broken right now. and some of us have not experienced the element of brokeness yet but as my mama would always say just keep living. You’ll experience some everything before this life is over. And the bible says that God talked to the Prophet. God talked to the Preacher. God talked to the Pastor. God talked to the Poiman. According to research Probably in the year 605 B.C. Jeremiah the weeping Prophet, Jeremiah the tell it like is Pastor, Jeremiah the Preacher that they loved to hate but always wanted to hear what he said, and Jeremiah the Prophet to told God I quit I ain’t doing this no mo with them.... And God made His word like Fire shut up in his bones and Jeremiah got the can’t help iit and had to tell it. I heard Jeremiah saying “You can’t tell it like I can tell what the Lord has done for me!!!” Jeremiah came from a long line of Priests and Preachers and Prophets so it was in his blood and in his bones, but he had an in house enemy King Jehoiakim. Jehoiakim didn’t bit mo want to hear what Jeremiah was saying to the Nation because Jehoiakim was a wicked ruler, and when you have a wicked ruler he hates any truth coming out of the mouth of the preacher. Jehoiakim hated Jeremiah’s message so much until he burned Jeremiah’s prophetic scrolls. Boy !!! that’s some kind of mad that you’ll burned the bible up and destroy the written record of God’s Word!!! Listen to me real good when we purchased new bibles I said you can’t go wrong getting God’s word. Because Heaven writes down what we do in righteousness. King Josiah was a good man but his son king Jehoiakim was rotten to the bone, and Jeremiah had to preach to them anyhow. Jeremiah was on assignment as an exiled Prophet and as an under seized Pastor.

Jeremiah lived in a time when the manufacturing of pottery was a major industry in the Near East. And brothers and sisters no doubt Jeremiah had passed by pottery shop after pottery shop, but on this occasion while passing by the potter’s house God spoke to him. God had a special message for Jeremiah. God said Jeremiah go down to the potter’s house. In other word go and pay close attention to the details that go on at this little pottery house. God said Jeremiah I will cause you to hear my words. God reveals Himself in strange places and at unexpected seasons. And you have to be wondering “What exactly is at the potter’s house” ? Listen at the potter’s house are two parallel stone wheels that are joined by a shaft. The Potter turns the bottom wheel with his feet and works the clay on the top wheel as the wheel turns. Why are you describing in vivid details about the potter’s job description. I’m describing the potter’s job skills because the Potter is a type of representative of God. Listen to me God is the Potter and we are the clay. and life is the wheel that we’re on going around and around . And every single person in here is on that wheel. And God knows where all the cracks fractures fizzures, flaws, and faults are. Now days they have lasers that detect problems and can deliver with precision a perfectly un flawed vase. But in Jeremiah’s day the Potter had to have a good eye for details a good eye for inconsistencies a good eye for camouflage and cover- up clay. here’s what I mean.

Some women can put on make up and look like a whole different person.

Some men can wear a suit a look like somebody super important. But God is not fooled by the outward appearance, or with the made up facade, or the fake lifestyle,or the phony rhetoric we say to make ourselves look good to look decent to look holy, no no no God knows us from the inside out. Because Jeremiah 17:9 says The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10. I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah told Judah that they would be in captivity for 70 years because of their wicked sins. But that God alone is our salvation.

So let’s get back to that potter’s wheel. Everybody is on that wheel and Jeremiah said through careful observation that while the potter was working and the vessel it seemed marred in the hands of the potter. Jeremiah 18:4 tells us the vessel was marred in the potter’s hand STOP.

None of us don’t like this part because it’s a divine examination, it’s a holy assessment, and it’s a righteous judgement. Nobody like to hear that I’m broken, Nobody want to hear I’m tore up from the floor up, nobody want to hear Y’all just don’t know how bad it really is at my house, on my job, with my health, with my finances, with my mental health and well being “Y’all Just Don’t Know”!!! When you’re all broken Up!!!

Well let me help you that person sitting on side of you right now!!! they got flaws fizzures fractures hair line cracks and all that just like you and the good news is that the Potter patiently kneads the clay and makes another vessel. That why every once a a while we bust out an say it’s the new me!!! I see some of y’all of Facebook and other media outlets saying OOh Wee Covid is over and I’m going to a party and this is the new me. And God is constantly remaking, reshaping, restructuring, and repositioning us to our best version of ourselves. And since God know us better than we know ourselves would it be smart would it be wise, and wouldn’t it be intelligent on our part is we just Let God and Let God make us into the Holy Vessel that He wants us to be.look at the b Clause in verse 4. “so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. And brothers and sisters that’s the Sovereignty of God. He can do what He want How He want to whom ever He want whenever He wants

Look at the text and you’ll see yourself in it. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6. O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. We’re in God’s hands brothers and sisters and whatever God wants to make out of me He can do it

Because 7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; 8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. In other word When we are broken and can throw our pride aside and be submissive to God’s Will God’s Way and God’s Work then Mighty Miraculous things can happen. Listen to me real good before the next set of verse “If what you’ve been doing haven’t been working in your favor, then why is it hard for you to make some meaningful positive godly changes.. Are you tired of running into that brick wall? But it you’e not tired of running in the wrong direction it’s going to get worse. Look at verse 9. And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. Here’s the spiritual analogy Church you want to be in verse 5,6,7, &,8. Those are the verses that says that the human soul is pliable, workable, and conducive for change. But verse 9 & 10 Those are verse that say that the human soul is stubborn stick-necked and hardheaded and will not change. When you’re broken Listen to me real good It’s your Choice to change that narrative. Because God tells Pastor Jeremiah in verse 11 Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

It’s up to you saints of God Well Iv’e held y’all long but tah there is a story that comes to my mind um um There was a Beautiful Little Tea Cup. Yes And through the years it winded up in an old antique shop Oh Lord and The store owner had put the price of $9.98 Great God and Then a man walked in and saw the little tea cup Oh Lord and He said My My My aren’t you a Beautiful Little Tea Cup Um Um Yes And a wold of personification started. Yes The Little Tea Cup said, Sir I haven’t always look this Beautiful Naw naw, One day I was just a lump of clay oh yes I was red and muddy and my master put me His wheel and began to shape me mold me and control me Oh Lord. Yes He Spin me around and around where we stop nobody know Oh Lordy ah. my Master saw a crack in me then he pat me back down into a lump of clay and started all over again. Yes he did. This time I didn’t have not cracks and I thought everything was over .

Then my Master took me off the wheel and let me dry he put paint all over me and shoved me in and oven . The oven was hot and the heat cooked me so hard. My Master took me out of the oven and let me cool down I looked fuzzy fuzzy in the mirror. And just when I was able to see myself clearly,my Master began to put schallat on me to help me shine, it didn’t feel good it didn’t taste good it smell bad and then I saw my master heat up the oven hotter and hotter. I said I know He ain’t gon put me in there and before I knew it I was in the oven again. It was so hot until I thought I would die. I said let me out of here right now. And II saw my Master’s mouth moving saying Not yet.. I said Please let me out of here . II heard my Master saying hold on a little while longer. and after while he took me out of the oven. Oh Lordy and put a mirror in front of me while I cooled down. At first I couldn’t see nothing and slowly but surely I began to see what he had made me into. And I heard my Master saying this is what I was trying to make you into all the while. Oh yes he did. It’s the same wya with us today we maybe broken we may have flaws we may have cracks but the Potter can put us back together again. When you’re all broken up, God can put you back together again.
