Our purpose

Now we get to talk about the real bummer of the whole thing. Sin

Genesis 3:1-13 “Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’ ” The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. What is Sin?

Sin is anything that goes against the will of God.

This can mean lying, stealing, being disrespectful, anything that goes against the way God built us.

James 4:17 “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

How do we know what sin is?

Read your Bible

Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

This is a list of different sins, and one of those reasons was to communicate His will.

Follow the Holy Spirit

If you are a Christian, have you ever noticed that you start to feel guilty for eoing something you didn’t have a problem with doing before? That could be God working inside of you to make you aware of sin

Listen to others

Myself, your leaders, parents, etc. will try to help you on sin. We all do it, so we should all try to work together to fight sin better.

The Weight of Sin

What is it that sin does to us?

Separates us from God

Gen. 3 shows this separation we ahve from God from this first sin.

Isaiah 59:2 “But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”

Punishment for our sin

Matt. 25:41-46 ““Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ “Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ “Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.””

Eventually, we will be judged for all of the things we have done. And, without Christ, the only thing that we can expect to hear is that we didn’t match up.

But, because of Christ, we don’t have to hear that, we can know that we are rescued because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
