Isaiah 55:8 NASB95
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts
God is thinking one thing, you are thinking another
God’s thoughts do not align with your thoughts
Married people should get this. You can see the same thing, hear the same thing, experience the same things, and your spouse’s thoughts are completely different.
That made you mad?
That didn’t make you mad?
You thought that was good idea?
How could you not think that was a good idea?
if we have trouble knowing another human being’s thoughts, how could imagine that we would know and understand God’s thoughts?
His thoughts are different
God’s perspective is different
Think about something good in your life . . . God thinks differently about that. He might not even think that it is good
Think about something bad in your life . . . . God thinks differently about that. He might not even think that it is bad
you might think you are ready . . . God might think that you’re not even close to being ready
you might think that you are not prepared . . . God might think that you are fully prepared
We don’t know what God is thinking, but this scripture reveals that God’s thoughts are different
Nor are your ways My ways, declares the Lord
since God’s thoughts are different, then it stands to reason that God’s ways are different
God has his way of doing things, and there are not like your ways of doing things
your method of doing things, is different from God’s method of doing things
God will go left, when you think he should have gone right
God will go up, when you think he should have gone down
God will stay still, when you think he should have moved
God will move, when you were hoping that he would stay still
God’s clock is set to a different time than yours
God’s GPS doesn’t even have the same map as yours
God’s budget doesn’t have the same numbers as yours
your ways or not his ways
Well, how different are our thoughts, how different are our ways?
Isaiah 55:9 NASB95
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.
wayyyyyy different, not even in the same ball park
He knows everything, everything about the past, present and future
He knows every living creature on the whole planet
He knows the big overall picture,
and God knows details that are so small that we would never notice them
He knows what’s in every heart, in every mind, there are no secrets from Him
He knows the outcome of every single action, and every repercussion from each action
God looks so far ahead, that he looks into eternity
so yes, God’s thoughts, God’s ways are wayyyyyy different
with husband and wife, with brother and sister, with friend, at least I can see what you’re talking about, though I might totally disagree
but God’s thoughts/God’s ways are so much higher, it’s like trying to spot a satellite from earth with your naked eye, with shades on, and your eyes clothes, you simply can’t even see it
We disagree with God, and we really don’t even know enough to disagree
we are mad with God, and literally don’t know what we are mad about
we get disappointed with God, and have no clue as to what is really going on
God’s thoughts are way different
God’s ways are way different
Where does that leave us?
His thoughts are the only thoughts that count
His ways are the only ways that matter
Proverbs 16:9 NLT
9 We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
so the only reasonable response is to
Trust God’s Word
Trust that God knows what He’s doing
Despite all of your unanswered questions, God knows what he’s doing
despite everything that doesn’t make sense, God knows what He’s doing
Despite all the twist and turns, God knows what He’s doing
Despite all the things that have been allowed in your life, God knows what He is doing
You are left with trusting his Word.
You are left with trusting the thoughts he has revealed.
Trust that even though God let’s weapons form against you, that they won’t prosper
Trust that even though all things aren’t good, God is making them work for you
Closing
God’s grace doesn’t make sense.
that’s why we call it amazing
one caveat - God can reveal some of His thoughts (we can’t handle all of them), but we don’t naturally know them, or can figure them out. If you want to know God’s thoughts, you have to be actively tuned in to the Holy Spirit. Which if we are being honest, often we are not
