Intimacy and fidelity with your spouse is worth everything it takes

What does he mean by lust?
Is Jesus being serious or funny?
What’s the remedy?
India - 21 years old
Matthew 5:27–30 ESV
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

Lust & Adultery

Lust Leads to Adultery
Males and females are wired for connection
Chemical reactions
Dopamine
Oxycontin
Distortion of the image of God & Destruction of humanity

Is Jesus being literal or funny?

Neither option gives us an escape

Literal - cut it off does the sin stop?
funny - if this is a joke, so are the 10 commandments, so is God’s revelation, therefore yesterday was as good as it will ever get.

Seriously

The eye is the medium through which lust begins
The hand is the interment to commit the sin
Sin will receive its punishment
Do what it takes to get healthy.
The Bible teaches control of desire, not suppression of sexuality

What’s the remedy?

Understand Love - love is intimacy

Love lasts
Love grows with knowledge and time, courtship, truth, and trust
love is individual - all other relationships are secondary
love thrives in conversation
love purses the good of the other, with self-control, concern, reason, and patience
Jesus puts all the cards on the table to say your intimacy and fidelity to your spouse is worth everything it takes - trust me.
