Let’s Go: “A Promise Made with His Life:”

Mark 14: 22-25

“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

I. The covenant promise made with bread (vs 22)

1. Jesus took it in his hands.

John 10:15

John 10:17-18

2. Jesus gave thanks.

3. Jesus broke the bread.

Isaiah 53:5

Revelation 20:11-15

“And we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – everyone – to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

4. Jesus gave the bread to the disciples to eat.

II. The covenant promise made with the cup (vs 23-24)

1. Jesus took the cup into his hands.

2. Jesus gave thanks.

3. Jesus gave the cup for the disciples to drink.

1. How does the way Jesus sent the disciples to find the upper room give evidence that Jesus was in charge of the whole situation?

2. How does Jesus’ control of events surrounding His passion encourage you when you face difficulties?

3. What might the disciples have thought when Jesus said that one of them would betray Him? Do you think you would have suspected your own heart if you had been there?

4. How does this passage express the tension between free will and the sovereignty of God?

5. In what way did all the disciples betray Jesus? In what way has every person betrayed Him and put Him on the cross? How can that betrayal be forgiven?
