Good singing.

Am I on ya? Good to see everyone here tonight. While Lee has this thing. So tall here to see you all tonight.

Wow.

I'm going to put some duct tape on that thing where he can't adjust it.

I think he doesn't on purpose. Have you take your mama's a turn with me to Romans chapter 4? Romans chapter number 4 will begin reading in just a moment. I want us to look at a question and through this question game, some knowledge of scripture and gain some understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And the question that we looking at this evening is what was the Old Testament way of Salvation. How were the Old Testament Saints saved? And so I want to just spend some time looking at this just for a few moments and glean, some truths from scripture. Let's pray, Our Father. We thank you so much for for your love and your goodness to us. We thank you Lord for the opportunity for us to come and to Just study your word and we thankful Lord. That's that we have the freedom to do. So. We pray God for the services tonight and the prayer time to follow. We pray Lord for the children and the youth. I prayed for all these teachers Lord that they would be able to tell the Glorious gospel to those children. father, we just Lift up Carol to you, Lord, right now. She had to be rushed to the hospital. I Lord, we pray God that you just comfort her and give her grace and strength. We ask all these things in Christ name. Amen. For those of you who do not know Carol about an hour ago or so fail at her home and Cut her, I pretty pretty good. Thankfully Bud Valor was there that he could call 911, but they are going to Probably keep her overnight probably but they are going to check her out at the Baptist hospital just to make sure that everything is okay. She may have to have a few stitches. But thankfully, it's not, it could be a lot worse. So anyway, again, we're looking at the question, how were people saved during the time of the Old Testament. It's really a great question because it can be

We can get confused on this question because we know that in the New Testament era and this current date day of Grace salvation comes by grace, through faith, faith in Christ, Jesus. The Bible explicitly tells us that in the New Testament. In John 1:12. Also Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8, and 9, John 14:6. Jesus said, I am the way, but before Christ, Going back to the Old Testament. What was the way of Salvation if salvation is only found in Christ. How were they who lived before Christ? Say, what a common misconception about the Old Testament way of Salvation is that the Jews were saved by keeping the law. That is the most common misconception that you will hear. If you're asked, if you're asking someone how the Old Testament Saints saved, and they was how well they kept the law, they brought offerings and they brought her sacrifices and all those things. And that they obeyed and because of those things they would that would be enough for them to be saved, but we know from scripture that that is not true. You don't have to turn there, but Galatians 311 says. Now it is evident that no one is Justified before God by the law. No one is saved by the law for. He goes on to say the righteous shall live by faith. Well, you might stay in the hold on a second that just applied to the New Testament. But Paul here is not just applying this to the New Testament. You know, why? Because Paul is quoting an Old Testament prophet habakkuk. Where he says, the righteous shall live by faith until that's an Old Testament verse. So even the prophet habakkuk said that salvation was by faith. It was not by law. Now what was the purpose of the law? Why did God give us the law where Paul taught us that the purpose of the law was to serve as a Schoolmaster to us or as a tutor to us to bring us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Also in Romans 3:20. Paul makes the point that keeping the law. Did not save either old or new testament Jews because he says, no one shall be declared righteous in his sight, by observing the law. And so, we understand, then that the law was never intended to save anyone. The law cannot save anyone. The purpose of the law was to make us conscious conscious of seeing. That's the purpose of the law and if you think about The law itself. To us is really a Grace. It is a Grace because without the law, we would not know that we're broken before God without the law. We would not know that we do not measure up and that we'd desperately fall short. And so even a law. Is a type of Grace to Sinners because we are broken by the law.

If the Old Testament way of Salvation was not keeping the law, then how were people saved? Again, we found the answer in Romans chapter 4, if you'll look there and Romans chapter 4. Paul makes it very, very clear. That's the Old Testament way of salvation. Was the same as the New Testament way of Salvation, which is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, Roman chapter 4 and verse number one says, What? Then shall we say that Abraham. Our father has found according to the flesh. For If Abraham was justified by works. He has something to boast about that reminds us of what Ephesians 2 89. We're not saved by works. Lest any man should boast again. Abraham said, Paul says, it's concerning Abraham, 4th. Abraham was justified by works. He has something to boast about but not before God, for what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Now to him who works the wages are not counted as Grace but as a debt but to him who does not work but believes on him who justifies the ungodly faith is accounted for righteousness. Now again, pause proving the point here that Abraham was saved by faith. It was saved by faith again. He says, in verse three Abraham believed God and it was counted, or it was credited unto him as righteousness.

And again, Paul quotes. The Old Testament to prove his point that quote there in verse 20, verse 3 is taken from Genesis chapter 15 and verse 6. Where it says Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

Abraham could not have been saved by keeping the law. Why is that? Because he lived? Over 400 years before the law was ever given. So he was not saved by doing certain things. He was not saved by keeping the commands of the Lord, know that would be a Salvation by works.

You say, well. What about those who were, who were saved after the law was given such as David will. Paul brings that up in verse 6 of Romans 4:6. Just as David also, describes the blessedness of the man to whom God, imputed righteousness apart from works. Blessed are those whose Lawless Deeds are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin. So Hear Paul than shows that David was also Saved By Faith was not saved by works. And again there Paul is holding. The Old Testament is quoting a song written by David salm. 30:2 verses 1 and 2 and Paul continues to establish that the Old Testament. Web salvation was through faith alone. Notice in verse 23. Romans, chapter 4, and verse 23.

It says, now it was not written for his sake alone that it was that it was imputed to him. But also for us, it shall be imputed to us who believe in him who raised Jesus, our lord from the dead and other words, righteousness, salvation is credited to us. It is given to those who have faith in God and Abraham. Paul says, and David, and we all encompasses all of us and birth 2324. Share the same way of Salvation. It is through faith by grace through faith. How much of the book of Romans in the book of Galatians addresses? The fact that there is only one way of Salvation and there is only one gospel message. Of course, we know that throughout history people have always tried to pervert. The gospel by adding what? Two it, adding human Works to it. Adding human Merit, our Good, Deeds to acquiring certain things to be done to earn salvation, but that's not the gospel message. Is that is not the gospel. But the Bible's clear message is that the way of Salvation has always been through faith. And the Old Testament, it was faith in the promise that God would send a savior someday. Those who lived in the time of the Old Testament. Look forward to the Messiah and believe God's promise of the coming, The Cumming servant of the Lord just as the prophet, Isaiah described, and Isaiah 53. And so those who exercised such fake, those were saved. Today, we look back. At the life and death and resurrection of our savior and we're saved by faith in Christ Jesus. And his atonement for our sins. The Bible plainly teaches us that in, Romans 10 verses 9 and 10, but in the Old Testament, instead of looking back, as we do by faith, they looked ahead in time by faith believing that God was going to send a messiah. A Christ, the Christ, the lord Jesus. So we look by, we look back. Today. And we see Calvary. But in the Old Testament by faith, they looked ahead and saw Calvary. They did not understand everything of how it was all going to play out, but they understood that God was going to provide himself a lamb.

And save his people. so, before the cross The Believers seeing was paid in anticipation of Christ's, atoning sacrifice. And since the cross, the Believers C and has been paid in advance.

So the gospel is not and exclusively a new testament message. Okay, lot of time. Will you think about where the gospel is? Only a new testament message, but that's not true. Galatians 3. 1/8 + 9.

It says, this the scripture Paul says this a scripture for saw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and announce the gospel in advance to Abraham. And there. He he quotes from Genesis. 12:3 All Nations will be blessed through you. So those who have faith are blessed among along with Abraham, the man of faith. And as early as Genesis 3:15, we see the promise of a coming Savior and throughout the Old Testament. There are hundreds of promises of the coming Messiah of the coming savior who would save his people from their sins.

Job site was in the was in the fact that he knew as Joe 1925 tells us, he knew that his Redeemer Lives. That in the end. He will stand upon the earth. That is the Fate that they had Not Looking Backward, obviously, but looking ahead, looking ahead in time knowing that God was going to send a redeemer. It would stand upon this Earth. So, clearly Old Testament saints were aware of the promised Redeemer and they were saved by faith in that. Save your the same way. People are saved today. There is no other way of salvation. Jesus is as Acts chapter 4 tells us the stone. You Builders rejected which has become the Capstone. Salvation is found in no one else for. There is no other name under Heaven given to Men by which we must be saved.

There is no Old Testament way of salvation. And a new testament way of Salvation. There is only one way of Salvation and that is by grace through faith. In Christ alone. If you live before Christ, you looked ahead by faith knowing that Our Redeemer was going to come if you live now, the day of Grace you look backwards and you know, that the Redeemer the Lord Jesus Christ has come and he has purchased his bride by way of the Cross of Calvary until the church sign that reads out there today. It says there are many gates that lead to hell. But Heaven only has one and that's so true and fitting. As we think about this question, how were the old testament old testament Saints? Save never saved. The same way that you and I are saved today. Alright. I hope that's a helping a blessing to you as we get ready to.
