EMOTIONS CAN BE CONFUSING
• “When I feel hurt because I feel my husband has wronged me,
then I don’t feel like going to talk to him. Instead, I feel like
leaving because I feel he won’t listen anyway. I feel justified in
the anger I feel. I don’t feel the Bible applies to our particular
conflicts.” (Powlison)
THE BIBLE IS FULL OF EMOTIONS
• Scripture not only speaks about emotions, it also speaks to and
through our emotions. The Bible itself is emotional literature,
filled with emotional expression and designed not just to
communicate with our rationality but also to stir us emotionally,
thus affirming our emotionality. (Evangelical Dictionary of Theology)
BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING OF EMOTIONS

A BIBLICAL SOLUTION: ENGAGE YOUR EMOTIONS
Psalm 42
• Step #1 – EXAMINE (verse 5)
• Step #2 – EVALUATE (verse 9, 10, 3)
• Step #3 – REHEARSE BIBLICAL TRUTH (verse 5, 8-9)
REHEARSE BIBLICAL TRUTH
• On a daily basis we’re faced with two simple choices. We can either
listen to ourselves and our constantly changing feelings about our
circumstances, or we can talk to ourselves about the unchanging truth
of who God is and what He’s accomplished for us at the cross. (Mahaney)
• Change and growth does not come from a change in your
circumstances. Rather, it comes from what you know to be true in
spite of the situation in front of you. (Vroegop)
