Sin
We have discussed God’s grace and his atoning salvation but we missed the reason for the need of all these things, sin
I know that it isn’t a pleasant subject to discuss but if fail to remember from where we came we are bound to return!
Acknowledging sin is taking responsibility
When Adam and Eve sinned they tried to cover it themselves instead of acknowledging it!
In a futile attempt to hide from God they thought they could just hide it away
God’s response was quite different, knowing what had happened He still called out to find them!
In the initial confrontation man made excuses
PASS THE BUCK!
No one wanted to take responsibility!
The Bible tells us that all have sinned
Notice the verb “fall short” it is in the present passive indicative and is correctly translated here “is falling short”
Even this side of the cross we are falling desperately short!
Sin is more than a laundry list of actions - it is a dangerous force at work against us now that we know the truth!
When Cain was confronted by God about his sacrifice, the work of his own hands he was warned:
Notice the word “desire”
Desire is an active force waging war within us..
It is a strong feeling to have or do something!
The Bible tells us
The Apostle Paul told the Corinthians:
So what am I to do?
By submitting to the Holy Spirit, He will help us bring ourselves under the Lordship of Christ!
When you sin, ask for forgiveness!
1 John 1:9 (NLT)
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
that takes a humble and a contrite heart
The word contrite here is the word meaning caused by or showing sincere remorse.
filled with a sense of guilt and the desire for atonement; penitent: a contrite sinner.
Repentance is more than bing sorry I got caught, repentance means to “turn around”
The good news is that when we repent God floods our life with goodness and grace.
There is only one sacrifice that will forgive us our our transgressions, that is the shed blood of Jesus Christ!
