14 After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, proclaiming the good news,, of God: 15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

16 As he passed alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon’s brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. 17 “Follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for, people.” 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 Going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat putting their nets in order. 20 Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Mark 6 tells us why… John spoke against the immorality of Herod took his brothers wife as his own

Luke 7, John sends his disciples to ask if truly was the Messiah

He was in jail, no doubt could bring the strongest into a little depression.

Isaiah 61:6 says that the Messiah was so set the captives free, and here he was sitting in prison.

22 He replied to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news, 23 and blessed is the one who isn’t offended by me.”

Matthew 5:3 blessed are the poor in spirit for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

1) The Good News: The Time Is Fulfilled

Luke 24:44–49 CSB

44 He told them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day, 47 and repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”

The Good News: The Kingdom of God Is Near

John 18:36 CSB

36 “My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”

13 He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. 14 In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The Good News: Repent

Access tot he Kingdom of God cannot be achieved through your own merits or righteousness.

Please don’t buy into the lie that repentance is some form of penance where you voluntarily impose some type of penalty upon yourself to demonstrate your sorrowfulness to God in the hopes he will accept you.

The Good News: Believe the Gospel

Entrust your eternity to Jesus alone

46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say? 47 I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great.”
