Luke 20:27–33 ESV
There came to him some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, and they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died without children. And the second and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died. Afterward the woman also died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife.”
Denial from the Start
Many have challenged the divine work
Jesus affirms that the dead are in fact raised to life… Luke 20:37-39
4. We as a body must affirm the resurrection and see the hope that exists in the power of the resurrection
5. Death Provokes new Life
6. Before we advance we must understand:
a. The body or vessel is corruptible and will perish
b. The Spirit of man belongs to the Lord and returns to Him
c. Soul is what either goes to heaven or goes to hell.

God is the God of the Living, Jesus is the Resurrection

Power over Death

Mark 5:36–42 ESV
But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.
The Ruler of the Synagogue
She was sick… then dies...
Why Bother the Teacher?… doubt
Commands given by Jesus
Do not Fear
Removes the doubters
He doesn’t allow them to follow
Puts those who laughed outside… they could not see
Speaks life not Death
she is asleep not dead.
Revelation of the Power of Christ is the ability to cause what is dead to rise.

Trusting in Christ

John 11:1–4 ESV
Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
Note Jesus’ Posture
John 11:6 ESV
So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.
He waits and operated on God’s timing
God will be glorified even in death
There are things that need to die, but in death new life is birthed.
how many times have we asked God to save something?
David’s struggle with the death of a son…
Posture of Surrender… true surrender
Trust God’s Power in

Obstacles in the Divine Work

John 11:8–15 ESV
The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?” Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
Not just unbelief but those who fervently oppose the power found in God
Not knowing His power
Trusting our own understanding
(FOR Our SAKE) Contrary to our posture and Nature God uses these moments to reveal Himself to us.

Jesus is the Resurrection

Jesus arrives after Lazarus had been dead for four days
In the first three days the body goes into bacterial decal
Organs left in the body are destroyed and gases released bloat the body
Mary is hurt by the delay… (she does not go to meet with Jesus… How many times do we do the same
Martha Wrestles with the Lord
John 11:25–26 ESV
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:40 ESV
Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
There is death this corruptible body will die
Believe in the resurrection
Same power that raised Jesus Christ from the grave will see you raised to life.
Not just people but circumstances
Lazarus Come Out…
