What an amazing journey we have had so far through the Book of Revelation AMEN
This is our eighth Sermon and we are already in Chapter 5
Lets get right to it.
Revelation 5 (ESV)
Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?”
And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it,
and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.
And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne.
And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,
and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands,
saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
This is a continuation of the Vision of the Throne Room of Chapter 4
First we get a picture of a Scroll
The scroll represents Gods plan
From beginning to end it is written out in advance and sealed
It is not written by man nor is it written by demon - Gods plan will accomplish what it is set out to do.
How many of you know that God has a plan for you.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Gods plan involves good - a future and in this present life hope
The scroll rests in the fathers right hand. - Again God is in control of the coming events that are going to be revealed at its opening.
The Scroll is sealed with Seven Seals
Why Seven?
Seven is the number of completion
It would have been sealed on the outside edge
It would have been like a Romans - Last Will and testament that has a seal of seven witnesses- This means it was irrevocable
Breaking of the seals reveals the plan
No one in the universe can open the seals unless they are worthy enough.
To me it is something like the sword in the stone. Only one who was worthy enough was able to pull it out of the stone. That was King Arthur.
John weeps because He knows that no one on earth is worthy enough to unseal the document.
Would Gods plan be hindered because no one is worthy?
Maybe John had the thought of Noah - “ would there be deliverance or was the entire world going to be destroyed and Gods plan of a future and a Hope be lost.
After a period of time an elder says - “ weep no more” - There is one who is worthy, there is one who has conquered - Conquered what “ Sin and Death” He has conquered evil - He has the keys to the kingdom - He has the power to overcome It is the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
Judah, my son, is a young lion that has finished eating its prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor.
Lion represents the royal power - Hos 11:10
For someday the people will follow me. I, the Lord, will roar like a lion. And when I roar, my people will return trembling from the west.
For thus says the Lord to me, “As the lion or the young lion growls over his prey, Against which a band of shepherds is called out, And he will not be terrified at their voice nor disturbed at their noise, So will the Lord of hosts come down to wage war on Mount Zion and on its hill.”
Interesting the Lion is the worthy one - but what does the Lion of the tribe of Judah look like?
It looks like a lamb - a lamb that was slain.
The power came from complete submission to the father - The Son who gave his life so you can be saved. The lamb that was slain - he is the passover lamb.
Interesting thing about this lamb is it had 7 horns and seven eyes
Lambs don’t have 7 horns or seven eyes “ but Jesus who we know is the Lamb is represented by them
It is a representative of His strength, power , authority and omniscience
Seven eyes represent the Holy Spirit
This is the Jesus we serve - AMEN
John the Baptist when he saw Jesus said, “ behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
When he took the scroll the room bowed before him
The judgement left to Jesus John 5:22
“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,
The elders and the creatures
Harps and Incense the praise and prayer of the saints
A New Song Is Sang
It starts with the word worthy
Why is he worthy? - His death ransomed man ( all people from all nations) back to the Father.
The angels sing worthy is the lamb that was slain.
Ps 33 says it is a song of Redemption we are called to give Him praise, Honor and glory
Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man;
from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,
he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.
The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love,
that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
Then the Cherubums in heaven say” AMEN - So BE It
The Bible says we are a kingdom and we are Priests- What do Priests do - they offer sacrifices to their God. They praise the only one true God -WOW
It also means we have full and immediate access to Him and his presence and we reign with him
Somebody say AMEN
Conclusion
Gods plan is activated by the Lamb
John ends with 7 attributes
Power
Wealth
Wisdom
Might
Honor
Glory
Blessing
Then it is partially repeated but added to it was
Forever and ever
The great alpha and Omega - the beginning and the end. The first and the last.
He is our God and we are to praise Him - AMEN
That word worthy means deserving
The only thing that prevents people from giving Jesus the honor deserved is Pride.
Some in there heart are like Satan saying - I will not bow the knee
Wrong thinking because you will eventually bow the knee
For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall give praise to God.”
You can give it in Judgement or give it in Honor it is up to you
