1 Timothy 2:1–4 ESV
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The Priority of Our Prayers. (v.1-2)

1 Timothy 2:1–2 ESV
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Paul says, “First of all”. This means that prayer should be first in importance, first in rank, and first in priority in the life of every Believer, also in the life of every Church!

In many ways, prayer has often taken a backseat to so many other things in our lives and even in our ministries.

But our text this morning reminds of the significance of Prayer!

PRAYER…is POWERFUL!

PRAYER... is the Privilege of the the Believer!

Jer. 33.3 “3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
John 16.23 “23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.”
Heb. 4.16 “16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

The text suggest that our prayers are made up of a few key elements…what I like to call “key ingredients”

Supplications - The bringing of our needs to God.
Phil. 4.6 “6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
2. Prayers - This word actually reminds that prayer is an act of worship, that we are in the very presence of God. Therefore deserves our reverence.
3. Intercessions - Means to “come along-side of”. It refers to the fact that as Christians, we have a responsibility to bring the needs of others to God. Prayer should never be be filled with selfishness.
4. Thanksgiving - As we pray, we should also reflect on the goodness of God which in turn fills our hearts with gratitude and appreciation for what He has done, is doing and is going to do!

Who should we pray for?

The Apostle Paul tells us that we are to pray for “all people”.

- No one is exempt.

- We can’t pick and choose who we’re going to pray for and who we’re not going to pray for!

- “ALL MEANS, ALL”!

Paul even gets specific. (v.2)

“for kings and all who are in high positions,”

Why Paul?

“that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”

- We are call to uphold the Integrity of the Kingdom of God!

- If there is ever a time that we should be praying, it is now!

The Pleasure Of Our Prayers. (v. 3)

1 Timothy 2:3 ESV
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,

Our consistency in prayer always brings glory and praise to our Heavenly Father!

That’s why we are who we are!

The Purpose Of Our Prayers. (v. 4)

1 Timothy 2:4 ESV
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God’s greatest desire is that all are saved!

2 Peter 3:9 ESV
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

We are called to hate sin, but to love the sinner.

Matthew 11:19 ESV
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.”
Luke 19:10 ESV
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
1 Timothy 1:15 ESV
15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

God has saved us and has called us to partnership with Him in reaching the world for the sake of His Kingdom.

Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
