In the nation of Rome, they made criminals carry the cross of their crucifixion. At some point in the journey through the city and up the mountain to Golgotha, one might consider to themselves; “This is my life now, to carry this cross until I die.” They might accept it and own it. This is a pale analogy of what it means to carry YOUR cross as a follower of The Christ. Your journey is voluntary, will be much longer and will have many different challenges to overcome. But there will be times of less or even no burden along the way. Just as the Roman soldiers forced an onlooker to carry Jesus’ cross, God will help you carry yours. By lightening your load with times of contentment and peace, and by sending your brothers and sisters to help along the way when He lightens their loads so they can help with yours.
