Isaiah 56:3-5
Introduction
With so many sermons aimed at the family, there are many who lack physical families or at least certain aspects of family life.
I’m sure those in these categories can feel left out during these lessons.
Now many can fall into that category:
Unmarried but hoping for marriage.
Unmarried and glad to be untethered.
Unmarried but used to be married.
Married and no kids but wishing for them.
Married and no kids and relieved.
I want to spend some time saying some helpful things no matter where you fall in that lot (and maybe some other place I haven’t mentioned).
To The Contented
Appreciate the value even if you do not desire it (Gen.
2:18; Psa.
127:3; 1 Cor.
7:38).
Make good usage of the freedom you have (1 Cor.
7:32-35).
Don’t shrug off all responsibility (Matt.
15:4-6).
Be a part of THE family (Matt.
19:29).
These of course go for everyone.
To Those Longing
Longing for something is not discontentment (Lk.
1:13).
It’s ok to pray for family.
It is ok to seek for family.
Have a gracious heart toward others ( 1 Cor.
13:5-7)
Don’t waste your life living in a holding pattern ( 1 Cor.
7:20-24).
Don’t be carried away by “what if” and “I wonder if” (Matt.
6:31-33).
There are legitimate answers to what if?
“Don’t doubt in the dark what you knew in the light”
Physical marriage is a mere shadow (Matt.
22:30).
Eunuchs are not barren in this kingdom (Isa.
56:3-5).
To The Bystanders
Try and think from their perspective (Rom.
12:15).
Season your words (Prov.
25:11).
Invite them into your family (Matt.
19:29).
Conclusion
Our circumstances here can provide varying levels of joy and sorrow but outside of Christ every path ends in vanity.
But in Christ, every circumstance is elevated.
No matter what you hope for this life, put your ultimate hope in what this life is a mere shadow of.
