Jesus Walks on Water- John 6
Jesus Walks on Water- John 6
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
Some have said this is a optical allusion of Jesus actually walking on the shore. This view contradicts the accounts of all the Gospels. It also presupposes a lack of attention by the disciples. Many of these men had spent their lives working on these very waters. The account given by Matthew tells of Peter attempt at joining Jesus on the waves.
When given the extreme power and faithfulness to believers, it should not be a stretch to see that Christ could walk on water.
Satan has great success at using fear as a weapon against people. We know there is no fear in God and we can trust him fully. With all that is going on, may we be diligent in seeking him and his faithfulness.
The great Commision is also a great introduction.
Matthew 28:16–20 (ESV)
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Jesus is always with us when we follow his commands.
“Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.” —Sir Winston Churchill
Jesus will never allow us to fail when we follow his commands.
In Christ, failure is not an option or possibility. As we follow him, we understand that all we do is for his glory. God will be glorified in his will And in this fact we see that all things truly work together for the good of those who seek him diligently.
When we think on the travels of the Hebrews, or the plight of David to be king, or the construction project and expedition of Noah, may we seek to remember that in all these instances God is glorified. So will he be in our lives If we trust and obey.
Jesus is more powerful than any force we may face.
“The unbelief and failure of man can never thwart the intended plan of God.”
― Erwin W. Lutzer
Jesus wants the disciples( and us) to understand that His power is greater than any obstacle they will ever encounter and that they are to rely upon Him totally and trust Him implicitly even as they obey Him absolutely.
Some questions for us today is,
“Do we trust in Jesus?” “Do we hear the call?” “Will we live out our faith based on who our God is?”
Today will we believe and live or cower and fade? this message is for those who believe and those who have yet to believe.
