17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
What is God’s will for my life? This is a question often talked about especially with youth
There is riotous living that comes from drinking wine.
Paul has been powerfully encouraging the church of Ephesus through the Spirit’s guidance
We are in Him so far as justification is concerned-that is our standing; and He is in us for sanctification-that is the source of a holy and useful life. The condition of a blessed life is the conscious maintenance of this oneness.
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
The sealing of the Holy Spirit is of incalculable advantage, because it means that we are stamped with the likeness of Christ and so kept inviolate among all the vicissitudes of life.
It is through the Church that Christ fulfills His will.
Chapter 2 - we are of the household of God
We are not of this world
We are ambassadors
Sojourners
Chapter 3 - Understand the love of God
Chapter 4 - We are in the Body of Christ, We all have gifts that are given to us to be a help to the church
Neither give place to the devil
Our words are vitally important
Chapter 5
Redeeming the time, we live in difficult, wicked times
time is running out, get all you can out of life
Spend your time right when you have
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Based on what was already discussed, don’t be unwise.
The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, Scripture says. The fear of the Lord is living with a healthy respect for God’s laws.
Wisdom is the power to understand life through the enlightening of His Word and His Spirit; operating inside God’s boundaries and laws.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Chapter 1 & 2 We are in Christ and victorious warriors
As soon as you walk in the flesh you subject yourselves to spiritual wickedness in high places, demonic authorities
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
We cannot live as fellowcitizens in the flesh
When we walk in the flesh, we start liking this world - we start feeling comfortable in this world
The way we associate
I like living, I enjoy life - but this life is not what we are about
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
The source of our power is of the Spirit in the inner man
Filled with all the fulness of God… this is possible through the Spirit
As you walk in the Spirt, God enables you to be used in the body of Christ
If you don’t want to be used, by Christ in the body - you are in the flesh.
When we tell ourselves we have a right to:
Walk in rebellion
Live in bitterness
Opperate in envy
Fornication
Lying / Deception
Stealing
Hatred
Chapter 4 we discussed the importance of our words and also fleeing sensual sin
We are children of light - we must walk in the Spirit
What is God’s will - to walk in the Spirit
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
You will speak to yourself in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs
This is the evidence
God wants there to be worship
Spirit filled believer has a melody
“ has a song
When I am at home
Well that’s not my temperament
It’s about His temperament
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Singing is an evidence of being filled with the Spirit
Giving thanks is
Entitlement spirit is an attitude that quenches God’s spirit
We’re going to heaven if youre saved
If you never get
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
If you don’t have gratitude you’re not in the Spirit
in our text giving thanks always
Christians don’t have to walk around depressed
Inflation
You don’t understand what happened to me...
If you are on your way to heaven you can always be giving thanks
“If when something bad happens and it destroys our spirit - that is not God’s will for our life.”
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
You may say that is impossible
all things are possible
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
You can’t fake being filled with the Spirit
Deep valleys do not interrupt the Spirit filled believers worship. In the valley, the Spirit filled believer meets the Lilly of the Valley.
Prayer is not hindered it is strengthened
Thanksgiving doesn’t cease it is increased
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, And hidden riches of secret places, That thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
There are treasures in dark places and it’s not meant to paralyze you but to enrich you to the treasures God has for you.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, Thy strength is small.
That’s not referring to your physical strength / emotional
When your strength fails, it reveals to you that you need His power
Don’t you want to know you need more power
Practice tests in school
When you realize your strength fails, it shows you there is an area that needs more strength - then you can go to God and ask Him for that power you need.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Make room for the Holy Spirit. Be filled with Him, and He will use heart and lip in the service of praise and thanksgiving. It is as much our duty to be filled with the Spirit as it is not to get drunk. Remember to give thanks always for all things.
A continual filling
An ongoing supply
It’s not on and off, in and out of the the Spirit
A river flowing through you
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
How do you stay in the Spirit
It is not through pride
It is by allowing God to humble us to the point of relying on His Strength
It is of utmost importance to God for you to walk in His Spirit - to be filled with HIs Spirit - continually
“The outpouring of God’s Spirit is given to the believer who does not lean on their own strength or understanding.”
“The Spirit filled believer understands they can do nothing of eternal value without God’s leading.”
Singing, teaching, preaching - outside of the spirit is of no eternal value
At your workplace depend on the Spirit
In your home, you need God to parent your child
Your spouse needs you to be filled with the Spirit
I cannot be a good husband in the flesh
You are not to do anything without the Spirit’s leading
If you teach in the flesh all that will be produced in the flesh
Holy Ghost of God, I need you as I Go to work
No eternal value in the flesh - do you want what you do to last - it must be Holy Ghost led
“The Spirit filled believer understands they must have God’s leading in life.”
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Do you hunger for Him - thirst
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

they yield
they say to their old adam nature - you're dead
you have no right to live
they yield themselves to God
they walk in the spirit understanding that the lust of the flesh leads to sin and that to death
We have tricked ourselves into thinking that we can operate in the flesh and just be good enough serving God
The spirit filled life produces amazing bounty and produce
Do you have a song that needs to be sung
Are you extremely thankful for your spouse
your church
your family
why are we ungrateful - the flesh
repent of walking in the flesh
be filled
you’re mad at people because of carnality and flesh - get that right
