Intro:

The work of Jesus Christ is superior, that’s the constant theme we here while in the book of Hebrews, He is superior, His Works are Superior, and our Walk with Christ is Superior. It is essential then to recognize that the Tabernacle of Christ, and His sacrifice are superior to anything before, and anything after.
The Earthly Sanctuary
Vs 1-10
Summation of these verses is that the ceremonies, and Levitical rituals where not an effective remedy for sin.
They were never enough, they were symbolic of what is truly needed, but they were never enough to satisfy the perfect and Holy God.
Holman New Testament Commentary
Hebrews & James I. Introduction: A Lesson from an Easy-Bake Oven

They provided an instructive picture of the perfect sacrifice which Christ would one day offer. Still, activities in the tabernacle represented only a copy of what Christ could effectively do in heaven.

Hebrews 9:9 HCSB
9 This is a symbol for the present time, during which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshiper’s conscience.
So why can’t the earthly works at the tabernacle satisfy the perfect and Holy God????
Ref:
Isaiah 64:6 HCSB
6 All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.
In Isaiah, he’s speaking of himself and the rest of their sinful nation, and the reality of sinners trying to be “good”.
The answer to the Question, because of Total Depravity.
Now some may call it the inability to be righteous, or something else because they don’t like the idea of Total Depravity. That’s fine, so long as no matter what you call it, you call it what the Bible calls it, a complete and total fall of mankind. When the First Adam and Eve fell, their fall was total, it was complete. Every decedent from that point on was under that complete fall. I was under that complete fall.
My attempts at righteousness on my own were nothing but self-righteousness, which God detests.
Ref: (For everyone is under the fall)
Romans 5:8 “8 But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!”
Romans 3:23 “23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Jeremiah 17:9 “9 The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable—who can understand it?”
Ephesians 2:1-5 “1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler who exercises authority over the lower heavens, the spirit now working in the disobedient. 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, 5 made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!”
My friends, the point is we have all fallen. It’s a reality that began at the fall of Adam and Eve and continues to this day. Every man made attempt at something Holy comes up short. The earthly sanctuary was symbolic, but never enough, as it was under the fall, and the Old Covenant.
Without Christ we are under the fall of man
The earthly sanctuary was inferior, and only a copy.
But the Messiah, the Second Adam came, a perfect sacrifice, and established the new covenant as mediator over it which is basically what we gather from vs 16-22.
and then establishes for us :
The Heavenly Sanctuary
Hebrews 9:23–28 HCSB
23 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves to be purified with better sacrifices than these. 24 For the Messiah did not enter a sanctuary made with hands (only a model of the true one) but into heaven itself, so that He might now appear in the presence of God for us. 25 He did not do this to offer Himself many times, as the high priest enters the sanctuary yearly with the blood of another. 26 Otherwise, He would have had to suffer many times since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared one time, at the end of the ages, for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment — 28 so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.
His work can not be duplicated, it can’t be out done, many have tried, all have failed. He and His Holy sanctuary are one of a kind. His sacrifice far superior and complete to do the work of salvation for us.
Jesus is not a copy, He was not man made. His birth is proof of that,
Ref:
Matthew 1:18 HCSB
18 The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
for a baby, you need a woman, and a man. It doesn’t matter what modern science tells us, you need a woman and a man. Jesus was born supernaturally without the need of a man, He’s not manmade, He’s not a copy! His Tabernacle is not manmade.

we have graduated up to Jesus’ Holy Tabernacle.
Jesus’ Sacrifice was Superior, and complete lacking nothing to save us.
2. With Christ we have a promise of salvation at the Judgment
So what do we do with this Knowledge of Jesus?
Hebrews 9:14 NKJV
14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Serve the living God
Wait a minute pastor Jerry, you just made us all feel bad that our works are filth in God’s eyes, now you want us to serve?
Anything we do without God, can’t be anything more than a mere copy, or an attempt at self-righteousness, but what we do with God brings Him Glory and Honor, and you were created for that.
Ephesians 2:10 (HCSB)
10 For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.
Conclude:
So what does your walk with Christ look like right now? Listen there is no judgment here, The Bible says there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, this is just a healthy inward look at our own personal walks with Christ. Is He getting your first fruits? do you give faithfully to Him your time, your gifts, of yourself? Maybe God today is saying, together we can do so much more child, will you surrender those areas of your life your holding on to tightly to, to me, and let me show you the great things I’ve prepared you for.
Christ is no copy, His sacrifice superior, so let’s walk with Him in the Heavenly Sanctuary that He has set us apart for.
