1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.
2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,
5 for each one should carry his own load.
6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
1. Do good because you are a child of God
1. Do good because you are a child of God
Since we live by the Spirit, we must do what the Spirit directs
If someone or when someone sins, you who are spiritual
If you are spiritual — who have gone through this before
Someone helped you out of your mess
Someone was patient with you
Someone loved you when you were unloveable
Someone was there when you were alone
Be someone for those that sin
Do not judge—restore in a spirit of humility
Do not tear down—restore in a spirit of humility
Do not say I Told You So—restore in a spirit of humility
Today its them, tomorrow, it could be you or yours
Do to others what you would have them do to you
Do good to others
We are in the building up business not the tearing down
We are in the encouraging business not in the making others afraid
2. Do good by helping your brethren
2. Do good by helping your brethren
A burden is something oppressive or worrisome, something that is carried
Today its them, tomorrow it could be you or yours
Carry each other’s burdens
Sometimes you being there is better than you knowing what to say
Your presence matters
Come along side and carry the burden
Do not stand on the sidelines and judge
Do not judge from a distance
If you have time to judge then you are not doing enough
Carry each other’s burdens
If you have time to talk, then you are not helping with the burden
If you have time to look at someone else’s problems then you are not helping with the burden
3. Do good in all you do
3. Do good in all you do
If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself
Stope lying to yourself
The only reason we can be considered something is because we are in Christ—our everything
Test your actions
Why are you helping?
Why are you giving?
Why are you attending church?
If any of your actions are only for your benefit, then you are doing it for the wrong reasons
God is the reason
He commands, we obey
Stop comparing yourself to another
We are not here to compete with each other
We are here to complete each other
Like in marriage, you complete each other
You do not compete
The difference is an “L” — Love
Love one another and you will help one another
4. Do good by sharing
4. Do good by sharing
Anyone who receives instruction in the Word
That means you (tell your neighbor, “That means you too”)
You are receiving instruction
You receive instruction, then show appreciation
You must share all good things
Listen, he said, all not some
He said good, not worn out or used
He said things, not just time
Take care of your instructor
Don’t make their calling a burden
God cannot be mocked
He sees what we do
5. Do good as you have opportunity
5. Do good as you have opportunity
Do not get tired of doing good
Look for opportunities to do good
There is always an opportunity to do good
Especially to those of the Household of Faith
Do good to all
Especially to other believers
Do not kick them while they are down
Lend a hand
Give a hand
Be a hand
Be a blessing
You are blessed to be a blessing
The more of a blessing you are the more blessed you will be
Acts 20:35 “35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ””
You are good at receiving
Get good at giving
It is better to give
You will still receive
But it is more blessed to give
