If you were to look at your calendar and expenses from the last month. What would be the top two areas where you invested the most time and the most money. Write answer on front of card.
On back, why are those the two areas of time and money investment?
For many of you, it would reveal a faithfulness to children, to work…etc
What is the goal of the lesson?
To lovingly lead the hearts of the hearers to see how covenant faithfulness is a mark of a healthy marriage.
Is there a need for this topic or goal?
Yes, because we often are blind to idols in our lives.
Yes, because idolatrous hearts are destructive to healthy relationships.
Big Idea:
Christians who have righteous priorities are not only growing in heart-shaping knowledge of Jesus; but they are applying that knowledge in everyday relationships.
(1) There is a need for righteous priorities
(1) There is a need for righteous priorities
(a) I Samuel 1:3. The need because of unapplied knowledge.
The deception of a wealth of religious knowledge leads to veiled idolatry.
These boys grew up around the Tent.
(b) I Samuel 2:12-17. The need because of fallen perspectives.
The perspective of God’s holiness must guide all other perspectives.
They did not know the Lord.
(c) I Samuel 2:18; 22-25, 35. The need because of the injustice of inactivity.
God’s name must be vindicated by right actions.

(a) Don’t allow a wealth of knowledge to cover up heart idolatry.
(b) God’s holiness must be a fundamental teaching in our lives.
(c) Live a life of practical faithfulness to the Lord.

God has raised up a faithful high priest that we might become a faithful priesthood.
What does this have to do with marriage?
(1) Examine your life for idolatry that is destructive to you and your relationships.
(2) Carefully consider if you are unwittingly contributing to the sin of a spouse or child.
(3) Establish together and communicate non-negotiable priorities that are based on the Lord and the gospel.
(4) Practice it!
