Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon (4592 σημεῖον)
σημεῖον [semeion /say·mi·on/] n

attesting miracles; i.e. one which points to the supernatural power of God in redeeming grace

We will find many images or typology paralleling the life of Moses and the Life of Jesus. Signs were manifested to the People of God prior to and coming out of Egypt. the first sign was the turning the blood into wine. then there was the parting of the sea. there was the turning the water into sweet water and bringing the water out of the rock. All were signs to the people and all were manifested to bring the people to the Pisteou knowledge of God. these specific signs having to do with Water.
Sign is what God reveals of His redeeming Grace?
The power
Now Jesus takes common water, placed in vessels where purification water can be found and transforms it into the best wine ever tasted.
Note also, there was a process of producing wine which took a period of time
What was the message?
Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand!
Luke 17:20–21 (NASB95) — 20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; 21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
The best wine is now. that wine that Jesus promised those in the upper room
Matthew 26:29 (NASB95) — 29 “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
Note that over a period of time that wine was kept in skins of animals which over the period of time it would ferment in that which was dead and after the process would be served. The wine that Jesus produced the people did not have to wait for nor did it touch that which was dead.
the wine that was shared among the disciples at the Last supper was that which did emerge from the skin of a dead animal which was very much appropriate.
Matthew 26:27(NASB95) — 27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.
It was through the sacrificial death of our Lord on the cross which would be the means of our redemption. and it is only though that work that we might be saved.
Matthew 26:28 (NASB95) — 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.
Matthew 26:28 (NASB95) — 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.
Matthew 20:28 (NASB95) — 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
The amount of the wine was sufficient for all the guest it did not run out and it was wine that is a pictured as Joy
The wine served served at the wedding did not touch that which is dead looks forward to the wine which will those in the kingdom will partake in. But it was offered in the present if the people would accept it by accepting Him.
John 2:11 (NASB95) — 11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.
Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon 4100 πιστεύω

4100 πιστεύω [pisteuo /pist·yoo·o/] v. From 4102; TDNT 6:174; TDNTA 849; GK 4409; 248 occurrences; AV translates as “believe” 239 times, “commit unto” four times, “commit to (one’s) trust” once, “be committed unto” once, “be put in trust with” once, “be commit to one’s trust” once, and “believer” once. 1 to think to be true, to be persuaded of, to credit, place confidence in. 1A of the thing believed. 1A1 to credit, have confidence. 1B in a moral or religious reference. 1B1 used in the NT of the conviction and trust to which a man is impelled by a certain inner and higher prerogative and law of soul. 1B2 to trust in Jesus or God as able to aid either in obtaining or in doing something: saving faith. 1BC mere acknowledgment of some fact or event: intellectual faith. 2 to entrust a thing to one, i.e. his fidelity. 2A to be intrusted with a thing.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NASB95) — 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
Pisteou is looking past one’s own understanding, one’s own trust and confidence in the world and worldly things and making one’s trust in he is not of this world.
Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon 982 בָּטוּחַ, בָּטַח, בָּטַח

בָּטוּחַ, בָּטַח, בָּטַח [batach /baw·takh/] v.

Manifested signs were for the unbelieving. Signs pointed to the reality of the power that stands transcended outside the scope of reason as God manifests His Glory.
Believing is the response. Now do I trust the one who manifested himself to me?
as did Abraham who trusted in the Lord and it was credit to Him for righteousness.
The signs as great as they were that manifested the Glory of the Lord was never enough. for those who continue even after becoming believers, so to speak, have not yet become oriented to the authority of God. Oh they saw the miracles. Oh they saw God’s working. And yet they continue to look for a miracle they continue to look for a sign.
Matthew 16:4 (NASB95) — 4 “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.
John 12:37 (NASB95) — 37 But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him.
In Signs Jesus manifested His glory, a demonstration, of the power that can only be of God the creator. and what would people do with such manifestation.
The revelation was “Here I am. Do you believe?” will you accredit me by faith that I am the Christ the Son of God. Who do you say that I am.
today the sign and wonders crowd still exist in the Pentecostal movement.
“Come to my Church where we speak in tongues and demonstrate the presence of the Holy Spirit. You will be amazed and you will come to believe for certain after seeking the manifest wonders.”
“No you won’t!”
“Come to this faith healing exposition where you see the power of Jesus being manifested and witness for yourself signs and wonders.”
A whole generation of non believers saw the miracles and wonders of God in the wilderness and they all died.
Many who witnessed first hand the miracles of Jesus were the same who stood before Pilate shouting “Crucify Jesus!”
Jesus says to Thomas
John 20:28–29 (NASB95) — 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
and why is that, for while the unbelievers go chasing after signs and wonders in order to believe they are dismissing the power of the Gospel for salvation. a Gospel that is revealed to a heart whose eyes have been opened.
Point of Doctrine
the power of Salvation is not in miracles
the power of salvation is the Gospel
the power of Salvation is not believing in miracles
the power of Salvation is believing the Gospel that is revealed by the ministry of God the Holy spirit making the reality of Christ manifested in the heart of those who are believing in Him.
Matthew 16:17 (NASB95) — 17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
