Kingdom of Heaven

Matthew 13:44 ESV
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
What is Hidden Treasure?
When you think of treasure, some people always think of pirates. or maybe these 3
*Picture of Veggie Tales*
Think of a map with a large X on it to mark where the treasure is hidden right.
We have a hidden treasure right here in God’s Word.
Sometimes we need a swift kick in the butt to get into it but it is right in front of us.
So this goes along with the next parable that talks about Pearl of Great Value
Matthew 13:45–46 ESV
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure
This merchant is in search of something right. So what does he do, he sells everything he has, saves up his money and buys this one pearl.
What does this mean for us?
I dont want anyone here to think I am telling you to sell everything, house, car, clothes, and whatever to get into the Kingdom of God.
If you decide to sell everything, that is a decision between you and God.
However, what he wants you to do is to leave your past, repent from your sin and pick up your cross daily.
We need to surrender to Him
We need to surrender everything we have and everything we are to Him.
Matthew 13:47–50 ESV
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Many fish in the sea
A lot of fish in the sea. Now this is no dating site. And that’s not what Jesus is speaking in this parable.
We are not going to just settle for anything. We want the best. In these 3 parables, the best is the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
THE ENDGAME
When you are at a grocery store and you are in the produce aisle. Do you just grab any fruit or vegetable and say this will do?
No we check it, we want to make sure it has not ripened to much, we want to make sure it is not moldy. We want to make sure it will either last or ripe enough to make right now.
Let’s take an avocado.
How do you know an avocado is ripe enough to eat?
Do you wait for the the skin to be dark green to almost black? Do you just check the color of it and say yep it’s ripe enough. Do you just cut into it and if it’s not ripe enough put it back in the fridge until it is.
You check firmness. How to tell if an avocado is ripe enough to eat you can easily push the side with a little bit of force.
So let’s talk about our walk.
How do you know you what the truth is and what isn’t truth?
True or False?
The decision to follow Him is between you and God.
We talked about this before.
Free Will
You have the free will to choose Him or reject Him. No one here can make that decision for you.
You have free will to decide if the Bible is truth or if it just a book of stories.
I choose Truth, I choose God, I believe the Bible is God’s Word and is the truth.
The Parable of the net says its one or the other.
Matthew 13:47–48 ESV
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad.
Fish of every kind.
It doesn’t matter if you are male, female, white, black, Asian, hispanic, tatted, not tatted, old, young, had a past or didn’t have a past. Everyone one day will be judged.
Matthew 13:49–50 ESV
So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
END OF THE AGE.
Matthew 13:51 ESV
“Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.”
Matthew 13:52 ESV
And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”
What does this last verse mean ‘Who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old’
Matthew 12:35–37 ESV
The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
We all have some sort of treasure. It’s what type of treasure is what counts.
Are you storing up treasures for you on Earth for your glory, or are you storing up treasures in Heaven for His Glory?
